2 What caused other European countries to start colonies in North America?
Today, we have a new big question. Would someone like to read it? Let’s think about what we know so far.

3 Spanish Colonies in 1600 What European country was the first to start colonies in the New World? * (Spain) Why were the Spanish so interested in making colonies in America? (lots of gold)

4 English Colonies Why did England also decide to set up colonies in North America? (hoping to find gold and other natural resources) What was the first colony England attempted to found? (Roanoke) Since Roanoke wasn’t successful, they started another colony. What was the name of that colony? (* Jamestown)

5 Netherlands The France Today, we’ll find out why two other European countries started colonies in North America. Any guesses? The two countries are France * and Holland *, which is also called the Netherlands.
