1 Strategies for Deciphering a Text  Use Prior Knowledge  Read Aloud  Use Context Clues  I’ve heard of “The Three Bears”; I wonder if this story is like that one.  Ah-ha! When I pronounce the word this way, it sounds more familiar.  I definitely recognize the name Goldilocks. This sentence, must be about her.

2 Strategies for Deciphering a Text  Use repetition and re- reading  Write out or summarize what does make sense or what you do understand  At first, I had no idea what this was about, but now that I’ve read this several times, I’m starting to see that part of it is about a trip to the beach.  Now that I have the parts that I do understand written down, I can fill in some of the blanks, based on the meaning from the context.

3 Strategies for Deciphering a Text  Ask for help  I’ve tried all of the other strategies, but I’m still not understanding what this means. I need to ask someone else to help me decipher this text.
