10 Setting + Mood and Tone Setting creates the mood and shows the tone.
This can affect the way we feel about characters.

11 Mood & Tone These involve feelings while reading a book

12 Mood The way a story makes you, the reader, feel is called mood.
Examples: cheerful, hopeful, silly, painful, suspenseful

13 How does this story make you feel?
During the holidays, my mother's house glittered with decorations and hummed with preparations. We ate cookies and drank cider while we helped her wrap bright packages and trim the tree. We felt warm and excited, listening to Christmas carols and even singing along sometimes. We would tease each other about our terrible voices and then sing even louder.

14 Tone The narrator’s attitude (maybe the author’s attitude) throughout the story or piece of writing Examples: casual, formal, friendly, stern, tragic

15 Think About It… Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins
