1 Technology Lesson Plan Writing

2 In this session you will:
Learn what technology is available on students computers Learn how to write effective technology based lesson plans Learn what TPACK is Learn what the NETS standards for students are View a sample technology based lesson plan View and receive a blank lesson plan template Do an Activity!  Begin writing your own technology based lesson plans

3 Things to remember when writing effective technology based lesson plans?
Most lessons can be enhanced with the use of technology. Make students use the technology by having them create a product. Provide websites or tutorials to help them get started. Don’t feel like you have to be an expert in the technology. Let students be the ones to trial and error through a program. Once the lesson is created your job is to facilitate.

4 What tools do students already have on their computers to incorporate into your lessons?
Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Microsoft PowerPoint Microsoft Publisher Microsoft Access Windows Movie Maker ClassScape Icon NC Wise Owl Icon NotePad Paint Geometers Sketch Pad CD/DVD player Windows Media Player Roxio Creator DE Calculator

5 What is TPACK? TPACK gives a holistic perspective of the knowledge associated with effectively integrating technology into learning environments, accounting for what teachers know and what teachers do. TP = Technological Pedagogical A = And CK = Content Knowledge

6 Why TPACK? Learning how to use technology is much different than knowing what to do with it for instructional purposes Redesigning instruction requires an understanding of how knowledge about content, pedagogy, and technology overlap to inform your choices for curriculum and instruction

7 TPACK Explained

8 Seven Pieces of the TPACK Pie
Content [CK]: subject matter to be learned Technology [TK]: foundational and new technologies Pedagogy [PK]: purpose, values & methods used to teach and evaluate learning PCK: What pedagogical strategies make concepts difficult or easy to learn? TCK: How is content represented and transformed by the application of technology? TPK: What pedagogical strategies enable you to get the most out of existing technologies for teaching & evaluating learning? TPCK: Understanding the relationship between elements -- “a change in any one factor has to be ‘compensated’ by changes in the other two”

9 The Educational Technology Standards for Students

10 What are the NETS for Students?
Creativity and Innovation: Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Communication and Collaboration: Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Research and Information Fluency: Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making: Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Digital Citizenship: Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Technology Operations and Concepts: Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. *Source:

I have tweaked your original lesson plan to make it more compatible for technology implementation. * Click here: Blank Lesson Plan Template

13 Let’s do an Activity! Get in small groups 2 – 3 members each.
You will receive a packet of objectives that are numbered. Sort through the objectives and highlight key information. Using Microsoft Excel make a spread sheet to organize your data. Click here to view an example! Good Luck!
