 The reason I am going to make a bedside table is because I would like to put something on it beside my bed.  I have lots of c.d’s lying about my room and would like something to keep them tidy in.

Bedside Table Materials & Construction The material that I will be using to make my bedside table will be hardwood (mahogany or pine). Wood would be the most suitable material for the job (softwood, pine) The products safety features will include no shape corners, use of non toxic finishes. The product can be made safe for the uses as it will not fall over! safety Environment The product will be used indoors. It will blend in with it’s environment and complement my existing products. Aesthetics It is important that the product looks good. When the product is finished it will get varnished. The product is the correct size for its location. Ergonomics Function The product is being designed for my lamp to sit on it. It is important that the product looks good. Cost The product will not be expensive to make but if you were to buy it, it would be expensive. The product will be used by a range of people but mostly me. The percentile will be 50 th. The part of the body that will be used in relation to this product are the hands and arms.

The reason I like these bedside tables is because they look easy to make and are reasonable size. 1.The reason I like this table is because it looks a reasonable size. 1. The reason I don’t like this table is because the legs are too much sticking out someone might trip over it.

I am designing a bedside table to hold my alarm clock in my bedroom. I have decided to INVESTIGATE THE HIGHT OF MYSELF + MY OTHER BEDROOM FURNITURE. First i looked at the height of my bed which was 600 mm tall. My height is 5 ft 4 inc, therefore I must design a product that is high enough to reach my bed but still comfortable for my use. I am also adding some sort of drawers to add storage space. I must consider my reach of my arm. The reach of my arm is 67 cm.

There are two types of wood. They are called Softwood and Hardwood. Trees are either coniferous, bears cones and have needle shaped leaves that stay green all year round or deciduous has flat leaves that fall in autumn. The timber that comes from the coniferous tree is known as softwood and the timber that comes from deciduous trees is known as hardwood. PINE - Is a cheap wood used in the building trade and for furniture. It is pale in colour, quite easy to cut and shape. MAHOGANY - Is quite expensive and is used for good quality furniture. It is light brown in colour and more difficult to use compared to pine as pine is a softwood. OAK - This is an expensive material, it is also used for making furniture. If you were to use steel fittings it would mark the oak, that is why on oak it has brass fittings on it.

I want to place my make-up, DVD's and CD’s on my bedside table. I have researched the products and have found out the sizes of them. The size of my DVD case is 15mm and the size of a CD case is 10 mm.

COST 1. My design must be cheap to manufacture. 2. My design must have non toxic finishes. 3. My design must blend in with the environment. 4. My design must look good. 5. My design must have no sharp corners. 6. My design must be the correct size for the location. 7. My design must be made safe for the use as it will not fall over. 8. My design will be used indoors. 9. My design will be varnished when it is finished. 10. My design will be made from hardwood.

1.I collected the tools I required to mark out the mortise and t6enios for my project. 2. using the try square I collected the wood for my project which was cut to size from my cutting list. 3. mortise gauge and steel ruler. 4. after marking it out I collected more equipment a tennon saw and saw board. 5. I then marked out my mortises with a mortise marking gauge and steel ruler and a try square. 6. cutting put the mortises I then used a tennon saw and a 6mm mortise chisel to remove the waste wood.

if I was to do manufacture this project again, the thing I would change is the legs. The reason I would change the legs is because it would look better. I would wood turn them.
