1 Evaluation 2013-2014 School Year Review

2 Evaluation Intent  Collaborative process to support professional growth  Conversations and reflection should be focused on Continuous Improvement  Summative Assessment based on the formal and other informal observations as well as supporting documents or artifacts  Teachers assigned to more than one building shall be assigned a prime evaluator with other principals consulted for input in the Summative Assessment.

3 Teacher Categories  Initial License Teacher 1 st year; new to the profession 2 nd year; new to the profession 3 rd year or from out of state  Career Teacher New to CRCSD but with several years of experience  Veteran Teacher CRCSD teacher for several years On the regular evaluation cycle  All teachers will be part of a Peer Review Team when developing their IPDP.

5 On Initial License; New to the Profession (Year 1 and 2)  At least one observation of the beginning teacher will be conducted by the evaluator in each of the first and second years of their profession.  The teacher may be asked to provide additional supporting documents/artifacts to verify his/her work under the 8 (eight) Iowa Teaching Standards. The evaluator will determine on a case-by-case basis the amount of other artifacts/documentation required of the teacher. The professional portfolio is no longer a requirement.  Prior to the last sixty (60) days of the beginning teacher’s first year, the evaluator will complete a summative assessment of the teacher’s performance to that point in the Iowa Teaching Standards.  The evaluator should meet with the teacher during either December or January of the teacher’s second year of teaching to discuss their performance in the eight teaching standards.  At the end of the second year, the evaluator will complete a State Summative Evaluation of the teacher’s performance in the eight (8) Iowa Teaching Standards.  Teachers in a recommended third year or coming from out of state and placed on an initial license by the BOEE will be evaluated with the same process as those completing their 2 nd year.

6 Initial License: Mentoring will include:  First year works with an Induction Coach  Second year teachers in the mentoring program will continue with their building mentor and an Induction Coach  Third year or out of state teachers will be provided either an Induction Coach or building mentor.  Observations of others and Induction Coach observations  Continual reflective mentoring conversations  Part of a Peer Review Team with an IPDP

7 Career teacher new to CR  Pre-service evaluation overview/notice of evaluation  Considered to be a Veteran Teacher on the 3 rd year of the evaluation cycle.  At least one Formal Observation before May 1 st  Must complete 8 hours of Safe School training  Summative evaluation and meeting prior to the last 10 days of school

8 Veterans in 1 st and 2 nd year of the 3 year cycle Yearly- IPDP meeting  Within the first 45 days reflection and discussion of previous year’s IPDP and development of IPDP for the new school year between the teacher(s) and the evaluator  This year the IPDP will be done with a peer team.  Progress may be discussed either at the end of the year or within the first 45 days next fall.  IPDP plans may be modified at any time by mutual agreement.

9 Veterans requiring an evaluation – 3 rd year (List provided at the beginning of the year.)  Pre-service evaluation overview/notice of evaluation (required to be notified within the first 45 days of the school year by the teacher contract.)  Review and reflection of IPDP  At least one 30 minute observation before May 1 st.  Supporting Documentation  Summative Review form/meeting prior to the last 10 days of school.

10 Observation Procedures  Should be 30 minutes or more  Mutually agreed upon date and time (not in the first 20 or last 20 days of the contract year and not before or after a holiday)  Pre-conference meeting- 2 days in advance of observation  Post-conference- within 5 days after observation allowing time for reflection  Evaluator’s written comments discussed at post-conference  Teacher will provide a written reflection of the observation to guide a collaborative conversation about the lesson.

11 Timelines  IPDP should be reviewed during the first 45 days and peer review teams established. (October 29, 2013)  All observations must be completed and reviewed by May 1 st.  All evaluations must be done prior to the last 10 days of school.  Progress on IPDP recommended to be reviewed in the spring.

12 Teacher Contract  Refer to Article XI of the teacher contract for specific information or guidance.  Evaluation, IPDP and Observation forms may be found on the District website.
