Why Orchestra? Being a member of our orchestra means that our students have a place to belong…an automatic circle of friends to support them daily. Being a member of a group that excels gives our students’ confidence and dedication that carries over into other aspects of life. Orchestra members are incredibly active in Medlin life - athletes, artists, cheerleaders, student council members, honor society members, spelling bee winners, singers, actors…all in orchestra too!

We are Family! The students form a very close “family” atmosphere in Orchestra and form bonds that carry through to high school and beyond! We do lots of things outside the school day to foster that togetherness; i.e. Six Flags, Elementary tours, NrH2o, Sandy Lake, Roller Skating,, Movie Nights, and lots more! We perform in many different places – including community centers, nursing homes, concerts, and more!

How do I get an instrument? Rental of string instruments can be done using two main options: 1) Music & Arts: They come out to our schools once a week and will deliver instruments, music, pick up for repairs, etc. 2) Bell’s Music Shop: They come out to our schools once a week and will deliver instruments, music, pick up for repairs, etc. **Online rentals and purchases should be made with great caution. Many sub-par instruments are sold online and can be unplayable. Check with Mrs. Lacefield if you have questions about online sources before you buy anything!

What does it cost? –Rentals range from $20-50 per month depending upon the instrument –Students that play the cello or bass rent a school instrument to play in class for $50 per school year.
