3 Lincoln’s Childhood  Born in Kentucky in a log cabin  Born on February 12,1809  His mother died in 1818

4 Family  Mother- Nancy Hanks Lincoln  Father- Thomas Lincoln  Brother & Sister-Thomas & Sarah Lincoln  Step Mother- Sarah Johnston  Wife- Mary Todd  4 Sons- Robert, Edward Baker, William, Thomas

5 Wrestling  Wrestled his neighbors when he was a young boy  They called it “no- holds-barred”  He won the county championship at 21  He got a job, and wrestled every evening after work

6 Politics before Presidency  Ran for Illinois Legislature  Lawyer  U.S. Representative

7 Presidency  Inaugurated as president in March 1861  Following this, seven states seceded from the Union  Selected a strong cabinet that included all of his major rivals

8 Important Achievements  Emancipation Proclamation  Saving the Union and freeing the slaves  Gettysburg Address (Nov. 19, 1863)

9 Assassination of Lincoln  Killed by John Wilkes Booth  Attending a theater show  Shoot from behind, in the head  His killer was never found

10 Conclusion  The most important thing that Lincoln accomplished was saving the Union and freeing the slaves
