2. How I have carried out my research
I carried out my research by going on certain websites and also using my common knowledge. The information that I have had to find out is what the two companies actually do as a company and their purposes. For this piece of work in particular, I have had to find out how both businesses are ethical. I have done this by looking at certain review websites.

3. Thorpe Park
Thorpe Park is in Chertsey, Surrey, England. It has the slogan ‘ The Nations Thrill Capital’ and it opened May 24th There is only one Thorpe Park in England and it is one of the most popular theme parks in England. It has such rides as: The Swarm, Stealth, Saw, Nemesis Inferno and Colossus. They have a resort inside Thorpe Park that family's can book and stay in. There is a nice range of food and drink that you can have if you are staying over night, such as: Roast and Relish, Desperado’s Mexican Cantina, 360 Bar and Grill, Battered Fish and Chips and many, many more.

4. Galliano’s
Galliano’s is a small Pizza takeaway place along Gaywood in King’s Lynn. It has a 5 star hygiene rating and It sells all kinds of different Pizza’s with different toppings on. The pizza’s are usually cheap so it is good if you are hungry when you are out. They also deliver pizza’s to people’s houses which is really handy.

5. Purpose of Thorpe Park To Entertain To Sell products
To offer a service
One of the purposes of Thorpe Park is to entertain. They do this by opening rides for people to go on. Visitors have to pay for the rides. This money that they receive then goes to making new rides. Thorpe Park sell products such as food and merchandise such as: clothes, key rings and mugs etc. They sell food so that customers don’t have to leave the park to get food and it means that they are making more money. They sell merchandise as souvenir’s so that people can remember the time that they had at Thorpe Park. Thorpe Park offer a service. The service that they offer is to entertain. Thorpe Park offer more services than my other business (Galliano’s). This results in them being a larger business because they are earning more money.

6. Purpose of Galliano’s To Sell products To offer a Service
Galliano’s sell products to people. The product that they sell is pizza. They also sell some sides that can be purchased with a pizza. The service that Galliano’s offer is to feed people. They also have a delivery service which means that they can deliver your food to your specific location.

7. Comparing to purpose of both businesses
Both of the businesses have a couple of comparisons. These are that they both sell products to the customer and they both sell food. Galliano's obviously sell food as they are a pizzeria but Thorpe Park also do because they own restaurants inside of the park. Both companies along with every other company in the world, sell products to people. You cannot be a company without doing so.

The business activities of Thorpe Park
Thorpe Park is a Tertiary Business because it sells their rides to people. It offers entertainment to the customers that go there by creating there own rides and then letting the customers go on them. The main rides that they have at Thorpe Park are: The Swarm, Nemesis Inferno, Stealth, Saw – The ride, Colossus and Tidal wave. These rides help the park get bigger because for example Saw-The ride is based on the movie SAW , and SAW is a horror film so people that like scary movies would love a ride like Saw. They also sponsor other business’s by advertising there rides on television. Cadbury’s sponsor the ride ‘Air’ and at the end of the ride they sell lots of Cadbury’s chocolate and the chocolate is advertised around the park. Merchandise is also sold at the end of every big ride, these are some examples of the sort of merchandise they sell: Key rings, T-shirts, Pictures that have been taking by a camera while they were on the ride, Mugs, Teddy bears etc. The reason that they would sell merchandise is so that people who buy it will remember what a great time they had when they visited. The pictures that get taken of them can also be printed onto such things as Mouse mats or Key rings. Food and Drink is also sold at Thorpe Park for the customers if they get hungry or thirsty while they are enjoying there day. Fright Nights happen at Thorpe Park on the 5th-6th, 11th-13th, 18th-20th, 25th October - 3rd November, this is were Thorpe Park stays open till 10 o’clock and it happens over Halloween. They do this because it attracts more people because it only comes around once a year. There is a 4D cinema there as well so if you are done going on the rides you can just sit back and relax whilst watching a movie. For the younger one’s they do shows which are good when you are with your family because you can sit down with other families and have a chat while your children are watching a show. Thorpe Park also Employ and train all of their staff so that the staff as well trained when it comes to rides because if one of the workers accidentally presses one of the wrong buttons, then everybody would be in big danger. They train them by showing them the basic’s of how to work a ride and for some of the other staff they show them how to do first aid.

The business activities of Thorpe Park
Galliano’s is a little pizza making business in Gaywood. It is in the Secondary and Tertiary sector because they make the pizza’s and then they sell them to the customers. They also sell such food as: chips and garlic bread. They deliver pizza’s to people’s houses if they want them too which is really handy if you are having a party at your house. You can also go and order your pizza inside of the shop if you are close. When you are out with your mates it is good to buy a Galliano’s for tea because they mainly sell thick pizza’s which fill you up quickly an if you don’t have a lot of money when you are out then it is good to buy one. They also advertise so if you don’t know their number you could just look on their website or you could look in the newspaper and see if they have advertised it in there.

10. Reasons for choosing the two businesses
The reason that I chose Thorpe Park was because the whole class had to use them as an example for our coursework. We chose this because they are a good template to build around and there are lots of different functional areas which meant that we gained a good understanding of what different parts there are to a business. We also visited the park as a school so we have first hand information about all of the rides because we have either seen them in person or we have rode them.
The reason that I chose to write about Galliano’s is because it is a local company that I regularly purchase food from when I am out. This means that I own a little knowledge about what the business is about.

The comparisons of the activities of the two business
There are a few similarities between Thorpe Park and Galliano’s. One of the similarities is that they both Employ people because if they didn’t employ people then they wouldn’t have anyone to work for them. Another is to sell food and make food. Galliano’s purpose is to sell pizza’s to people and all of their chef’s are trained to make pizza’s to a high standard. Where Thorpe Park run an amusement park so that means that they are less focussed on making food and more focused on making people have a good time. They also both sell things for family’s to enjoy e.g. Food or Amusements/rides. Both Thorpe Park and Galliano’s train there staff to a high standard because if the staff at Thorpe Park weren’t trained very well then they might not be able to work the rides properly and then that could put a lot of peoples life's in danger. At Galliano’s if the staff aren’t trained properly then they might not be able to make pizza’s properly and then if they can’t make pizza’s properly then they will also be putting people’s life’s in risk because they could give the customers food poisoning because the pizza’s might not be cooked well enough. They both have a website but Thorpe park’s website is a lot more detailed compared to Galliano’s because Thorpe Park is a much more well-known place. They both have websites so that you can either book a stay at Thorpe park or to book tickets and Galliano’s website has their phone number on so that you can ring them up to place an order for food. Thorpe Park’s website has all of the information about itself on there and it has all the information on there about how and when you can stay there and what rides they have. Thorpe Park’s website would catch a lot of viewers eyes because it has a lot of animated pictures on there. There are much other things on there like: A map of the place, information about fright nights, ticket prices etc. Galliano’s website only has information on it like: it’s phone number, hygiene rating, address and a picture on what it looks like. Although Galliano’s doesn't have a lot of information on it, all of the information that it dose have on it is key because if the website didn’t have the phone number on then if someone wanted to order a pizza they wouldn’t be able to contact Galliano’s.

12. Aims of Thorpe Park Aims:

Thorpe Park’s aims
The main aim that Thorpe Park have is to become the market leader by beating Alton Towers. Thorpe Park want to be the best Amusement park in Britain. Alton Towers are Thorpe Park’s rivals in Britain and by beating them it means that they would then be ahead of Alton Towers and then they would be the best amusement park in England. Another aim that Thorpe Park would like to achieve is to increase long stay visitors. This means that they would like more people to visit there park and stay over night for a couple of days. This would mean that they would be making more money than they usually would be making and it shows that more people are liking the park. Thorpe Park would like to increase mid-way attractions, this means that they would like to make more little arcades so that there is more things happening at there amusement park and that more people would be enjoy there time their. Another aim is to develop their own rides. This means to maybe add more features to their current rides or to just simply take ideas of their rides and adding the ideas to build together new rides. This would men that they could possibly make rides that the customers would really enjoy and it also adds something new to the park. If they think of good new ideas for rides then they would make more money and build on their popularity because more people would be wanting to go to the park to try out the new ride. Thorpe park would also like to develop their park in many ways. By developing their park they could gain more customers and more customers means more money. The different ways that they could develop there park are by maybe making more rides, more merchandise stores and more staff patrolling around the park. The last aim that Thorpe park have is to create group synergy. Creating group synergy means that they want to mix in with other companies like MTV and getting them to advertise them on TV. Another company that they mix with is Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s give out little reward point tickets to people if they have spent a lot of money in the supermarket. The last set of companies that I know that Thorpe Park bond with is are the Newspapers. Inside the Newspapers they have Thorpe Park tickets were if you cut them out and use them, you can get discounts on prices when you visit Thorpe Park. Merlin Entertainments is the name of the company the run Thorpe Park so they are a big part of Thorpe Parks group synergy because they are the people who decide who they mix with.
Conclusion
Thorpe Park are achieving most of their aims. They are doing this by:
They are providing entertainment that they know people will love. They know this because they have done research into how much money they have made when creating a new ride. This is accurate research because when a new ride is released, people will want to ride it and to do so, they will have to pay.
With the money that Thorpe Park are bringing in from the rides, new rides are being made. This means that they are developing their park and rides regularly.

13. Objectives of Thorpe park

Thorpe Park’s objectives
The first objective that Thorpe Park have is to build one new park every year. This is an objective and not an aim because you need a lot of money to build a new park every year and the best way to get money is to get more customers to visit your park and the only way to do that is to have more advertisements and to develop new ideas and develop more rides for their park. Another objective is to increase the amount of returning customer by 15% in one year. They can achieve this by creating bigger and better rides that will catch the customers attention because then more people will want to go on them and then maybe return the following year to go on them again. To complete their accommodation building by This objective by now has virtually been completed because we know that can visit Thorpe Park today. To form a partnership with other companies is another objective. Thorpe Park is already partnered with MTV. Being partnered with another company means that you get advertised more and then more people will know who you are. Another objective is to increase overnight stay visitors by 10% in two years. The way that they could do this is to advertise their rooms more because then more people will know then that they have rooms that you can stay in over night. To create one new TV advert every year is another objective. If they make one new advert every year then that means that they will be more well known. By making more adverts it means that they can advertise the new features of their park. The last objective is to hold three out of season events every year. This means that they would hold events like: Fright Night, a Firework night and Ministry Of Sound. This would to maybe get more money and it is fun for people to go to these because it only happens once a year.

Galliano’s aims and objectives
One of Galliano's aims are to sell pizza’s to people. If they didn’t sell pizza’s to people then they probably wouldn’t be a pizzeria. Another of their aims is to make profit. Profit is were the company makes more money than they spend. Every company wants to make profit because if a company didn’t make profit, then they would loose all of their money. Along side Galliano’s, all companies want to make their customers happy because if the customers are not happy then they will not go there. Galliano’s want to be the best pizza selling company in King’s Lynn because then everyone will go to Galliano’s instead of Domino’s or Pizza Hut. Galliano’s also want to expand their business so that it gets bigger across the country and so that they have more then one pizzeria. All pizza companies want to think of more ideas for pizza’s but it would really help Galliano’s because they are only a little company and they want to be more well known. Again like all companies, Galliano’s wants to employ more staff so that they have more people to deliver pizza’s for them and so that they have more chef’s. This would help them because it would mean that it would be quicker to get the food to people and the customers like it when the food is done quick.

15. To what extent are the aims of Thorpe park being met
Thorpe Park are meeting there aims. One of these aims is that they are updating their rides. This means that they are bringing out new rides regularly. This keeps the visitors happy because it means that they will want to visit the park to try out the new rides.
Another way that Thorpe Park are meeting their aims is that they are updating their park. This means that they are bringing out new attractions, restaurants and gift shops.

16. To what extent are the objectives of Thorpe Park being met
Thorpe Park are meeting there objectives. One of the objectives that they are meeting is that they are creating a new TV advert each year. Each year they bring out a new advert about a new ride. This is because at least one new ride is built each year.
The other objective that Thorpe Park are meeting is that they are building a new park each year. Thorpe Park most recent roller-coaster that has been built is Swarm.

17. To what extent are the objectives of Thorpe Park not being met
Thorpe Park didn’t meet the objective of completing their accommodation building by They had originally had the ‘Crash Pad’ on site. This was supposed to be their accommodation building but they were not satisfied with it so a year later (in 2014) they built ‘Thorpe Shark’. This is now their new accommodation building.

The similarities of the two companies are that they both want to employ more staff. Without any staff the company wouldn’t have enough workers to do the job. Another Similarity is to make more parks/pizzeria’s spread around the country. If they have more spread around the country then they would of made their company a lot bigger and then maybe in the future they could have more spread around the world. The third Similarity is to become the best Amusement park/Pizzeria in the country. They could possibly do this by getting advertised by bigger companies and then develop their company to make it more well known around the country. Then if their company gets big enough they might be able to over take companies like Domino’s or Pizza Hut and be the best. The last similarity that I have wrote down is that they both want to develop what they already have. This means that Thorpe Park want to develop their park and that Galliano’s want to develop their pizzeria. They can do this by being advertised to get more money or to gain more popularity so that then more people will go there and spend more money there. Then they can spend that money to develop what they already have. They both also train their staff to a high quality so that they maintain a good name and so that all of the new staff know what their role is in their job.
The differences of the two companies are: Galliano’s want to sell pizza’s, Galliano’s want to think of more types of designs for their pizza’s, Thorpe Park want to build at least one new park every year, increase the amount of overnight stays, to develop their rides and increase mid-way attractions.
I think that Galliano’s wanting to sell pizza’s is a difference because Thorpe Park isn’t trying to sell pizza’s it is trying to sell their rides to people. Another difference is linked with the first one because it is that Galliano’s are wanting to think of more types of pizza designs. The third objective that I have wrote down is that Thorpe Park want to build at least one new park every year. I put this in the differences because Galliano’s wouldn’t have the money to make a new pizzeria every year due to them not being as popular as Thorpe Park. The next objective that I put down is that Thorpe Park want to increase the amount of over night stays. Galliano’s would not want this as an objective because they do not have any rooms to lend out to people to stay in. Thorpe Park wanting to develop their rides is another difference because Galliano’s don’t have any rides to develop. The last difference that I have put down is Thorpe Park wanting to increase mid-way attractions. Galliano’s cant do this because they don’t have any mid-way attractions in their pizzeria.

All of these business are competitors to Thorpe Park because they are all Amusement Parks and so is Thorpe Park. This means that they are all competing to be the best in Britain. It is mainly between Alton Towers and Thorpe park because they both have the best ideas for rides and they have the best advertisements on TV. Alton Towers has a ride called ‘Oblivion’. Oblivion is one of the only rides in the UK that has a vertical drop. This may mean that they will get a lot of customers visit there to go on it. Also Alton Towers ticket prices are cheaper than Thorpe Parks which means that more people may visit Alton Towers. To balance this out, Thorpe Park could drop the price of their tickets so that they are the same as Alton Towers price. Then it will mean that the people who would like to visit a big amusement park, will have to pick the one that looks the best because the prices would be the same. Pleasurewood Hills is a much smaller amusement park that not many people now of if they don’t live round the area. This means that this is not as much of a competitor for Thorpe Park. LEGOLAND is a more unique amusement park because the theme Is based around Lego. Although they are unique the only visitors that they would get are people who are fans of Lego so it means that all of the people who don’t like Lego might not like to visit a place like LEGOLAND. Flamingo Land is more of a family based amusement park because they have lots of animals for all of the kids to see. Drayton manor is a park that has lots to offer for little kids . For example there is a Thomas The Tank Engine Land which lots of little toddlers would love. Chessington World Of Adventures is like Flamingo land because there are animals that everyone can visit to see. They also have a Hotel that people can stay in overnight.

These are all competitors of Galliano’s because they are all pizzerias. Everybody knows about Pizza Hut, Pizza Express and Dominos because they have more pizzeria’s around Britain. Galliano’s want to become as big as Pizza Hut, Pizza Express and Dominos and the only way that they can do this is by getting advertisements on TV to make them more popular. Gaywood Pizza House is Galliano’s biggest competitor at the moment because they both very small companies that are both situated along the same road. They both only just sell pizza which means that it is even more competitive because they both want to have the best quality pizza’s. Pizza Express and Dominos are a smaller companies then Pizza Hut but they are still both bigger companies than Galliano’s. Galliano’s are within reaching distance of catching up with Pizza Express and Dominos but it would take a couple of years for them to be able to do this but it would be possible if they were to create group synergy with other companies.

How are they ethical-
Thorpe Park have to make sure that they are paying their employees fairly because if not then the employees wouldn’t be happy with their pay and they could quit their job. It also makes Thorpe Park look better if all of their staff are happy with their job. Thorpe Park work with charities which is great because they have done that out of choice so it means that they didn’t have to but they did. This makes Thorpe Park look like a supportive organisation. Thorpe Park have a good waste management. By waste management I mean that they keep their park well cleaned. This Presents their park nicely and every visitor would think that it is a nice amusement park to go. There are different types of cleaners in Thorpe Park. There are cleaners that clean the toilets, the park, the souvenir shops and the ride cleaners. Thorpe Park also direct traffic around the park and they help to avoid public areas. This would help people a lot because some people don’t know where to go when they are driving into Thorpe Park and sometimes they could accidentally drive into public areas without knowing and hurt someone.
My Judgement-
I don’t know if I think that Thorpe Park are ethical. This is because because there are many ways in which they are ethical which are all really positive, but then the way in which they are not ethical, is a really bad reason and it makes the park look unprofessional.
How are they not ethical-
In the past, Thorpe Park were fined for having young school children working for them illegally at the park. The children were working without a work permit and they were working over the permitted hours. 14 of the students were aged This is obviously bad because Thorpe Park know that it is illegal but they still done it any way. This could have affected the children’s school work because they would all be in their last year of school and they would have needed to be focusing on that but instead they were working illegally. Another example of Thorpe Park unethical is that they built on Greenfield sites. This means that they have had to cut down a lot of vegetation to build their park. This could have ruined the nice view for some people and their could be lots of noise coming from the park that distracts people.
I believe that this is disgraceful because Thorpe Park know that they shouldn’t have done it, but they still did. In my opinion, I believe that Thorpe Park are very selfish for building on Greenfield because they are just taking down a nice part of land to place down another park, even though they already lots of others.

22. Business Ethics – Galliano’s
How are they ethical-

How they are ethical-
Galliano's recycle old pizza boxes that they maybe don’t need no more because they are not of use. It is good that they recycle them because if not the boxes would just get shoved in a corner and never get used because they would have new ones get delivered in. Galliano’s also pay their employees fairly like Thorpe Park do. This is for the same reason that Thorpe Park do, so that they are happy with their pay because if their not happy then they will probably quit their job.
My Judgement-
I believe that Galliano’s are an ethical business because they do a lot to help the environment and they put effort in to make everyone happy at the business.

23. Overall judgement
Overall, I believe that both Thorpe Park and Galliano’s are ethical because they both do things to either help people or to help the environment.

Improvements for next time.
My evaluation
My strengths were that I wrote down some key information that got me more marks. There were a couple of times were I only just put a little bit more information into a question and I got more marks, this shows that it doesn't really take much to be able to get better marks. The disadvantages were that there were some points were I forgot to explain what they mean or what they do. This shows that you can loose out on marks really easily if you are not focused. The skills that I developed were that I learnt that in order to get the marks you have to explain in great depth about what you are talking about. The improvements that I would like to do in the future are that I would maybe try a bit harder to get more written down so that I could get more marks.
