1 Creating a Video Using Discovery Education Clips and Images Prepared by Jo-Anne Gibson Teacher-Librarian Acadia Junior High School

2 The Process Increase student file size on the network for a limited time by putting in a divisional work order listing every student who needs more space Give students an overview of the process by showing them the instructional video found in Discovery Education (DE); path: Professional Development – Interactive Training – Lesson 2: Integration Strategies – 2d Using Editable Titles

4 Find Images and Videos* All images on DE can be used; only editable videos can be used To find editable video, use the Advance Search feature and select “Include Only Editable Titles” *If students are creating their own videos, they can’t download files. Teachers will need to download the videos they think students will need and save them in the Student “R” Drive and put them in a folder so that the students can access them.

6 Download Video or Video Segments Select the “disk” icon to download videos/video segments or pictures and Save to My Videos

7 Import Video/Pictures to Movie Maker

8 Select File and Import

9 Drag clips/pictures to Movie Maker Storyboard

10 Trimming Clips Trim the beginning or end after you have added clips to the storyboard (you can clear the trim points at any time) Drag the trim handles to trim unwanted portions

11 Splitting Clips You can split a video into two clips Useful when you want to insert picture or video transition in the middle of a clip On the storyboard, click the clip you want to split On the Play menu, click Play Clip and then click Pause Clip on the Play menu to pause the video at the point you want to split the clip On the Clip menu, click Split

12 Combining Clips You can combine two or more clips Useful if you have several short clips and you want to view them as one clip on the storyboard On the storyboard, hold down the CTRL key and then select the clips you want to combine (they must be beside each other on your board) On the Clip menu, click Combine To select consecutive clips, click the first clip, press and hold the SHIFT key and then click the last clip.

13 Mute Sound on Each Video Segment Note: Only done if adding own narration

14 Add Narration 1. 2. Check your audio level On your microphone

15 Save Narration Save narration to your Narration folder on your desktop; it will automatically appear on the Movie Maker timeline

16 Add Video Transitions

17 Add Video Effects

18 Add Titles and Credits

19 To Play your Video To check your work as it progresses, you can play your video from the play tab on the toolbar or the play tab on the video

20 Save as Videos take up lots of space; once you’re done, consider moving your video to a stick

21 Enjoy your new creation!
