Jag Tuli Vienna Nov 10-11, 2008 Major database is ENSDF Regular US Nuclear Data Program budget briefings are held at DOE Headquarters in February/March. Sole source of funding: US/DOE Office of Science. DOE shares concerns expressed by the representatives of the USNDP about non-US contributions to ENSDF, particularly about steadily decreasing (or almost non-existent) European effort Many of us have brought up the issue at many European forums Clearly Europe is a big user and producer of nuclear data but not a big contributor to the evaluation effort International contributions to ENSDF

Jag Tuli Vienna Nov 10-11, 2008 Structure and Decay Data Evaluation for ENSDF An international effort is needed to sustain this vital resource, used worldwide. An increasingly large fraction of evaluation effort now comes from US and Canada.

Jag Tuli Vienna Nov 10-11, 2008 Usage US+Canada: 44% Europe: 24% Japan: 6 % China: 4 % Former: USSR 3 % India: 2% StructSure and Decay Data Evaluation for ENSDF Usage of data geographically (source: US National Nuclear Data Center, 2007) There is dramatic disparity between contribution to and usage of final product Contribution (2002- 2006 average) US+Canada: ~78% Europe: ~9% Japan: ~5%

Jag Tuli Vienna Nov 10-11, 2008 Structure and Decay Data Evaluation for ENSDF European Effort (1986 to present): Dramatic erosion of prior European support: Out of the 6 European structure data centers in 1986, none is currently financially supported. Europe is a ~30% user of end product but its contribution is disproportionately low (two remaining structure evaluators are retirees and have no financial support). 13 Jag Tuli Vienna Nov 10-11, 2008 Conclusion Strong international effort is needed to sustain this vital resource, used worldwide. European community is a major user of NSDD databases. Their contribution to keep them updated will be greatly appreciated. Some European groups seem interested in this activity. These groups should be supported.

Jag Tuli Vienna Nov 10-11, 2008 Conclusion Thanks for allowing me this opportunity to bring our concerns to your attention.
