2 Mountains and plateaus High mountains in region historically limited contact. The Himalayas serve as a natural barrier and feature Mount Everest, the worlds tallest mountain peak. Many climbers have died trying to reach it’s summit.

3 Rivers, Deltas, and Plains Three major rivers in region: They carry rich soil on their journey from the mountains. SOUTH ASIA Indus Ganges Brahmaputra

4 Islands and Peninsulas Sri Lanka and Maldives make up two small countries off the southern coast of India.

5 QUESTION: Which area do you think gets more rain a year…DFW, or New Delhi, India?

6 Monsoons Monsoons are strong seasonal winds. Winter – Winds come from Northeast very dry. Summer – Winds blow in moisture from Indian Ocean.
