2 Key Words Spot Heights: The height of certain points on a map indicated by a one off specific number Above Sea Level (ASL): The distance in which land height is measured, with sea level being zero. Contour lines: Lines on a map that represent a certain height ASL. Lines generally 20 m apart however this is different on each map.

The closer together the lines, the steeper the slope. The further apart the lines, the more gentle the slope.
