ADUC 13/6/2012T. Eriksson CERN BE/OP

AD startup 2012 Startup with beam 31/3 – 26/4 –Debug injection, beam cooling, deceleration etc. –Optimize beam emittances, deceleration and beam parameters at ejection energy. –Verify ring parameters (tunes, orbits, chromaticity etc.) –Set-up and optimize ejection lines –Studies (depending on time available): Injection line (dogleg): MTV:s can now be used thanks to improved CCD-cameras Minimize transverse tails at 100 Mev/c GEM tests at 100 and 500 MeV/c Optics studies in 7000-line (ELENA matching issue) ASAUSA line optics improvement – RFQD matching New pulsed converters stability (ELENA/AD/PS complex synchronization) (AD cycle programming: verification of some features in view of ELENA) (Orbit pickup sensitivity; dependence on beam intensity) (Tests for future tune measurement system) (Tests of new stochastic cooling parameter control) (Dispersive optics at 100MeV/c vs. cooling performance) (Minimize losses at 3.5 GeV/c) Physics started as planned 27/4 (=> Not all experiments ready at this time) 31 weeks of physics in 2012 planned ADUC 13/6/2012T. Eriksson CERN BE/OP

AD cycle/performance ADUC 13/6/2012 -Good efficiencies established relatively fast - Some (initial) problems with unstable trajectories at 100MeV/c T. Eriksson CERN BE/OP

Beam parameters at 100 MeV/c - Longitudinal emittances: ejected bunch length was 100 ns at startup, growing to 170ns later. - Previous years we started at 160ns which increased to 250ns during the summer -8/6/2012 transverse profiles: little or no sign of tails or halos. 80% of the beam is within 0.5 – 0.8 pi.mm.mrad ADUC 13/6/2012T. Eriksson CERN BE/OP

Ejection line optics Studies on ejection line optics mismatch (md): –Kick response measurements show incoherencies –Improved TV-cameras for MTV 7001/7045: can now be used for pbars –New GEM-detectors better suited for optics validation –BHZ8000 (not used today): shielding against remanent fields installed –Important for ASACUSA RFQD matching + ELENA transfer line design –Common part is validated up to DE0.GEM42 after shielding of BHZ8000 and including DE0.BHZ fringe fields in calculations –Will continue….. ADUC 13/6/2012T. Eriksson CERN BE/OP

ASACUSA beamline ADUC 13/6/2012T. Eriksson CERN BE/OP -Some studies done to recover good trapping efficiency (1.5E6) -Some discrepancies downstream of DE0.GEM42 -With larger than normal beam, vertical divergence is observed between the ASACUSA watchdogs -Slight improvement with DE1.BHZ10 fringe field included in MAD. Not yet operational since other discrepancies should be found first. -Trapping rate very sensitive to beam emittances -0.8E6 trapped presently -Needs more studies

AEGIS beamline -Improvement after including dipole gaps in MAD. -Tuning vs. trapping rate -3D model also tested but no real improvement ADUC 13/6/2012T. Eriksson CERN BE/OP
