ITS network  ITS private network required to remotely configure and control different subsystems (as many as possible, e.g. Ion Source, BD Power Converters, RF amplifiers)  The ITS network is required for end of August 2011 (?)  Switch/router based solution for the private network is proposed and will be implemented and supported by CERN IT  General Purpose Network outlets in the ITS control room will be available  M. Thonke takes care of the document specifying the design and planning of the ITS computing and networking infrastructure and communicates it to CERN IT  Large amount of measurement data shall be stored and treated. How do we identify the measurement data and where do we store it?  Is the ITS CO deployment document ready? PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 5

ECR Ion Source and spectrometer  MedAustron IS and the Pantechnik’s spectrometer dipole are the first subsystems to be delivered and tested at the ITS end of Oct. 2011. MedAustron final spectrometer to be delivered March 2012.  Two week of IS and spectrometer CO integration tests have to be performed right after the installation and before the IS SAT. Will the IS CO be fully functional after those two week?  Scan of the ion species using the spectrometer dipole (sweeping of the power converter current and recording of the beam intensity in the FCN downstream the spectrometer) is an essential measurement for the IS acceptance tests. How this procedure will be implemented (MA and PK spectrometer)?  Synchronization between the spectrometer power converter and the FCN for the scan of the ion species?  Implementation of the IS long term stability regulation using the FCN-A? PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 6

Beam diagnostics  BD is indispensable tool for the beam measurements and subsystem commissioning and will be permanently used at the ITS, therefore needs to be most advanced in terms of control.  1 st BDT-D and BDT-A downstream the spectrometer equipped and fully functional (hardware) will be available for the IS acceptance tests end of Oct. 2011  BD FEC with FECOS implemented and MAPS communication protocol for control and data transfer will be tested in the BD Lab. and ready by end Sep. 2011  Emittance measurement procedure will be ready by end Oct. 2011  1 st tests of the BD (WSX, SLX and FCN) with the beam (2 weeks of commissioning of the full readout chain) during the IS SAT (1 week shared with CO?). The same types of the BD in the rest of the beamline do not require additional testing.  PGX and CTA readout chain shall be tested with the beam (1 week for each monitor) PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 7

Faraday Cup Cylindrical (FCC)  The FCC may not be ready by the end of 2011 to be installed in the beamline. Use vacuum pipe instead.  The FCC could be installed and tested in 2012, if available  Is FCC required for the IS stability monitoring at the ITS?  If yes, what should be done for its control? PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 8

Power converters  Power converter current setting (magnet setting) is one of the most varied parameters during the beam transport optimization!  Ion species scan (spectrometer dipole field sweeping and beam intensity measurement) requires large number of different current settings and beam measurement data points (~3000?)  Given the large number of power converters (23) and due to the reasons mentioned above, it is very important to be able to remotely control the power converters  Three families (A, B and C) of power converters are used at the ITS for different types of magnets (MBH, MQZ, MSO and MCX)  1 st family A power converter required in Oct. 2011 (for MBH-A)  1 st family B power converter required in Oct. 2011 (for MCX-A)  1 st family C power converter required in May 2012 (for MQZ-M)  What is envisaged for power converter control?  Do all the power converters of the same family have the same control? PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 9

Magnets  Interlock system will not be available for the ITS (?)  Interlock signal (from thermo switch and/or flow meter) should be directly sent to the corresponding power converter  From magnet point of view the two signals can be combined.  Do all the power converters have an interlock input? PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 10

RF amplifiers and LLRF  30 Nov. 2011 - 250kW RFQ RF amplifier (includes 10kW predriver), 10kW Buncher RF amplifier and the LLRF delivery to CERN  11 Jan. 2012 amplifiers installed, commissioned and accepted on a dummy load (no MedAustron Control involved) -> amplifiers fully functional and can be connected to the RFQ and the Buncher for RF conditioning and later operation with the beam  LLRF information needs to be accessed remotely from the ITS control room to perform e.g. RF amplitude and phase scans combined with beam measurements. Procedures would be useful.  Control integration tests could be performed for the Buncher amplifier with a dummy load after 11 Jan. 2012 (tests for Buncher same as for RFQ, except for the amplifier’s PLC).  Control integration tests on a resonant load required?  Timing system for synchronizing the BD with the RFQ pulses necessary? PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 11

Vacuum system  During the RF conditioning the RF power coupled into the RFQ (Buncher) has to be gradually increased while monitoring the vacuum pressure (surface outgasing) to avoid electric breakdown  The vacuum level in the RFQ and the Buncher has to be communicated to the corresponding RF amplifier (analog? signal VAC OK (predefined value or interval)) during the RF conditioning and the operation.  Procedure planned for the RF conditioning or manual? PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 12

Fast Deflector (EFE)  EFE ready to be installed at the ITS end of 2011  EFE power converter PKF with switches and controls available spring 2012 (tentative)  How is EFE operation via control system intended?  How is the timing/synchronization with the RFQ pulses is assured? PP-110620-a-ESA_ITS_MACS_Week_June2011.pptm E. Sargsyan ITS Subsystems Availability 13

Open questions  ITS CO deployment document ready? Data identification and storage?  Full functionality of the IS control after two weeks of CO integration tests?  Implementation of the ion species scan procedure (MA and PK spectrometer) / synchronization between the spectrometer power converter and the FCN for the scan of the ion species?  Organization of the BD tests with the beam (1 week shared with CO integration tests)?  Power converter remote control?  Necessity of control integration tests on a resonant load?  Necessity of a timing system for synchronizing the BD with the RFQ pulses?  Procedure planned for the RF conditioning or manual?  Integration of EFE in control system?  Timing/synchronization of the EFE with the RFQ pulses?  Is FCC required for the IS stability monitoring at the ITS?  What should be done for the FCC control?  Anything else…?
