Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 Creating 3D Drawings Getting to Know the 3D Modeling Workspace Drawing in 3D Using Solids and Surfaces Changing Your Point of View Creating 3D Forms from 2D Shapes Specifying Exact Distances in 3D Space Controlling the Appearance of your Model

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 The 3D Modeling workspace looks quite different from the AutoCAD Classic workspace

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 The main feature of the 3D Modeling workspace is the Dashboard. The Dashboard contains everything you need to create a 3D model.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 There are two types of 3D objects: solids and surfaces. With solids, you can create shapes by adding or subtracting other shapes. In the image below, a cylinder and small box are subtracted from a larger box to form the shape at right.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 With surfaces, you can create free-form shapes using curved 2D objects like splines or polylines.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 Like 2D objects, 3D objects can be edited using grips.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 A special feature called the grip tool, lets you manipulate objects in 3D space.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 If you need to draw on a surface, you can do so using the Dynamic UCS feature.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 Closed 2D objects can be extruded to form 3D solids.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 You can manipulate individual 3D objects that have been used in combination to create a more complex shape.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 Predefined views can be selected from the Dashboard, or you can create a custom view.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 Views can also be created using a camera.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 You aren’t limited to rectangular shapes. Curved 2D shapes can be transformed into 3D forms.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 Even simple arcs and polylines can be extruded then given thickness.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 With the Sweep took, simple outlines can become complex 3D shapes.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 Here two tools, Helix and Sweep, are used to create a coil.

Just Enough AutoCAD Chapter 6 Objects can be given a sense of realism by adding materials and lighting.
