2 A Technique for Reading 1.Survey headings and topic sentences 2.Turn each heading into a question 3.Read to answer your question 4.Recite (write) brief notes to answer your question 5.Review your questions and answers (headings turned into exam questions are often points emphasized in exams)

3 Taking Notes 1. 1.Take detailed notes 2. 2.Identify each set of notes 3. 3.Develop an outline form 4. 4.Listen with questions in mind 5. 5.Use phrases, incomplete sentences, or easily understood and remembered shorthand notes

4 Taking Notes 6. 6.Write down all technical terms, definitions or explanations, and examples 7. 7.Review and annotate your notes on the same day that you take them 8. 8.Write legibly and clearly – rewrite your notes if necessary 9. 9.Write down assignments

7 Studying Order – arrange objects or terms in a sequence based upon a stated property Describe – state observable properties sufficient to identify an object or event Distinguish – select an object from two or more which are easily confused (or tell how you would do that)

8 Objectives Construct – make an object, verbal statement, or drawing State a Rule – communicate a relationship or principle that could be used to solve a problem Apply a Rule – supply an answer to a problem by using a stated principle Demonstrate – perform operations necessary to carry out a specified procedure
