Cross-cutting themes: - planning and design, sustainability - project governance (partnership & leadership) - value added of ERDF co-funded projects, lessons for strategic planning.

4 Regional Policy EUROPEAN COMMISSION EN 4 Innovative projects and comparative analyses: a new approach Extrapolate lessons from a number of projects - how well they contributed to the implementation of a regional development strategy (not the usual programme evaluation approach adding in a couple of examples) Source of in-depth contextual knowledge Policy learning, complementary to evaluation (limits to generalisations)

6 Regional Policy EUROPEAN COMMISSION EN 6 Governance methods for Regional Innovation Strategies 15 regional case studies (West Sweden, Lowlands and Uplands, Saxony, Denmark, East of England, Pays de la Loire, South of Holand, Styria, Piemonte, Prague, Slovenia, Lithuania, Central Transdanubia, Valencia, Pomorskie). Focus on OP 2007-2013 and their link with national or regional innovation policy Going beyond a mere description of procedures and institutions: looking at perceptions of innovation governance, analysing if regional approach lead to an efficient innovation policy Learning from each case study and from comparison
