3 HawaiiDentalService.com 3 Hawaii Dental Service Dentist by One Campaign HDS is working in conjunction with our network of dentists, various organizations, and yours – The Hawaii Chapter of American Academy of Pediatricians, to help educate the public on the new standard for children’s oral health, that: The American Dental Association AND the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry both recommend that a child should go to the dentist within six months of getting their first tooth - and no later than their first birthday.

4 HawaiiDentalService.com 4 Baby’s First Visit to the Dentist At the first check-up, the dentist will: Check your child for cavities. Show you how to brush and floss your child's teeth. Teach you about food, drinks and habits that can cause cavities. Talk about fluoride. Check your child's bite, growth and development. Give you information on how to prevent accidents as your baby grows.

5 HawaiiDentalService.com 5 Tips for Caring for Baby’s Teeth CLEAN: Baby’s gums w/ damp washcloth after eating/drinking. BRUSH: First tooth, with soft brush and water twice daily. NO BOTTLE: In Bed; don’t let baby fall asleep with bottle. GIVE WATER: Stay away from sugary drinks like juice and soda DON’T SHARE UTENSILS/FOOD: This will spread germs from your mouth to theirs which can cause cavities.

Ensure they understand that if they have Medicaid, their child is covered completely.
