WP21(Training activities) Final deliverable (D.18)

As a CO WP21 final deliverable, a contest for best CO related publication, authored/co-authored by CO PhD students was announced (~1st August), and run till 15th September Pre-conditions to enter the contest: Publication authored/co-authored by CO PhD student Publication published,or at least accepted for pub.,before 15th Sep., 2009 Topic related to CO issues Possible entries sent to J.Pempkowiak/Ch.Heinze till 15th Sep.,2009

There are quite a number of publications by (former and current) PhD students doing CarboOcean-related research. In the context of WP2, eg. Friedrich and Oschlies (2009) JGR 114: C03020; Telszewski et al. (2009) BG 6: 1405-1421; Steinhoff et al. (2009). Padin et al (2007) JMS 66: 285-296. Padin et al (2009) JMS 75: 280-285. Patecki and Manning (2007) IEEE, 061215-11. Santana-Casiano et al. (2009) DSR II 56: 533-541. However, only publications that reached Heinze/Pempkowiak before 15th Sep. were considered

C.: Imminent ocean acidification in the Arctic projected with the NCAR global coupled carbon > cycle-climate model.Biogeosciences, 6, 515-533 ( 2009).

Tools used in research were as follow: -2x modeling -2x experimental -2x calculations However, all six publications are :  authored by CO PhD students,  devoted to CO subject, and  published in excellent journals.

Therefore the following solution was adopted:  all six PhD students are awarded for outstanding contribution to CO goals  Awardees will be hended a diploma stating their achievement (signed by Ch.Heinze and J.Pempkowiak)  Awardees will get a lump sum of 150 Euro as a token of CO appreciation of their successful involvement in CO research
