© 2011 Autodesk Class Summary In this class we will show you how to convert existing piping specs from Bentley’s AutoPLANT and from Intergraph’s CADWorx plant design systems so that they can be used in the AutoCAD Plant 3D plant design system. We will tell you what problems to look for so that the conversion can be made quickly and effectively.

© 2011 Autodesk Learning Objectives At the end of this class, you will be able to:  Convert an existing AutoPLANT piping spec to an AutoCAD Plant 3D spec  Convert an existing CADWorx piping spec to an AutoCAD Plant 3D spec  Understand how the AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor works  Identify common problems with converting piping specs

© 2011 Autodesk Assumptions 1. You know what Piping Specs and Catalogs are! 2. Familiar with Plant 3D Piping Specs and Catalogs structure and how they are used 3. Familiar with AutoPLANT or CADWorx Specs and Catalogs 4. Familiar with AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor

© 2011 Autodesk Introduction

© 2011 Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D - Piping

© 2011 Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor

© 2011 Autodesk Converting AutoPLANT Piping Specs

© 2011 Autodesk Common Problems in Converting AutoPLANT Specs  Spaces in AutoPLANT Piping Spec Fields (instead of null)  Missing Field Data  Data in AutoPLANT Spec Field not transferred to Plant 3D  AutoPLANT Classes not mapped to Plant 3D classes

© 2011 Autodesk Problem 1 – spaces in blank fields  This shows in the “specname-log.txt” file as follows:  Correct by removing spaces in the appropriate classes

© 2011 Autodesk Problem 2 – Missing Data  Again, the log file will indicate this:  Open the Spec database for the components named in the log.  Fill in the missing data

© 2011 Autodesk Problem 3 – Data not transferred  Field exists in AutoPLANT spec that does not exist in Plant 3D  Or no mapping exists  Open AutoPLANT spec in Access and check fields

© 2011 Autodesk Problem 4 – Missing Classes in Plant 3D  Classes are defined in AutoPLANT that do not exist in Plant 3D  Solution – create this class in Plant 3D:

© 2011 Autodesk Converting CADWorx Piping Specs

© 2011 Autodesk Process  Similar to AutoPLANT Spec Conversion  Check for Class Mapping  Check for missing fields  Let the log file help you with the missing data  Tips:  Make sure the output folder is EMPTY  The log file is your FRIEND!  Check Class mappings and Geometry mappings

© 2011 Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor

© 2011 Autodesk AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor  Use it to modify and add to converted specs  Easy to use  Training available on Plant Exchange

© 2011 Autodesk Common Problems

© 2011 Autodesk Converting Piping Specs  AutoPLANT or CADWorx Classes not mapped to Plant 3D classes  Data in Spec Fields not transferred to Plant 3D  Missing Field Data  Spaces in AutoPLANT Piping Spec Fields (instead of null)

© 2011 Autodesk Conclusion

© 2011 Autodesk What we did  Converted an AutoPLANT spec to Plant 3D  Converted a CADWorx spec to Plant 3D  Modified a spec using the Plant 3D Spec Editor  Reviewed the common problems

© 2011 Autodesk Converting Piping Specs  It’s EASY!  No pre-conversion  The process is automated in AutoCAD Plant 3D Spec Editor  Use the Log Files to help diagnose problems  Make sure the output folder is empty  Or does not contain that spec partially converted  If you are changing SETTINGS – run as ADMINISTRATOR

© 2011 Autodesk More Informationwww.autodesk.com/plantexchange  Video Tutorials  Ask the Expert and Discussions  Community of users
