Coaches With Clients presents... “The Rapid Coaching Academy: Professional Coach Training System…” Session #2: Creating Safety & Connection

www.CoachesWithClients.com “What We’ll Be Covering…” Clients = Anyone you would coach Make clients feel totally safe so they can open up How to build and maintain rapport The “science of momentum” The psychology of performance Creating well formed outcomes, goals and setting direction for yourself & for your clients

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Homework Check…” Did everyone get their homework done? It’s OK to do whatever homework you can. It’s your life and with your client, it’s their life (Pushing clients can put you out of rapport with your client) No judgments

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Emotional Awareness…” A lot of times we are very unaware of how we feel The more aware we can be, the better As you notice how you’re feeling, you will start noticing where it is coming from A lot of what holds us back is internal stuff Knowing “how to do things” is not always enough

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Creating A Safe Place...” There is a willingness for people to open to you as a coach just because they don’t know you (anonymity) Being on the phone One of the biggest things you bring to the table as a coach is your presence Biggest mistake = Going on autopilot or jumping in too soon The power of coaching begins the moment the client hires you

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Creating A Safe Place…” The client paying you actually creates value for them Second biggest mistake = Making it all about you It’s OK to share a little bit about yourself Be honest & vulnerable Let them know that what they’re going through is common “I want to let you know that this does happen a lot and that there is a way to resolve this.” Listen, listen, listen Be comfortable with silence

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Q&A: Talk, Talk, Talk…” What do you do if the client just wants to talk and talk and talk? Sometimes people get caught up in their story “If you could put this in a nutshell what would it be?” Sometimes clients need to tell their story Just listening to people has a lot of power

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Getting And Maintaining Rapport...” 1.The more someone is like us, the more we like them 2.Matching speaking rate and speed 3.Match their tonality 4.Match key words 5.Use “sounds of reassurance” 6.Never make the client wrong 7.Another mistake = just giving advice (what’s right for you isn’t necessarily what’s right for your client)

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Q&A…” Q: What if the client’s behavior is detrimental to themselves? A: If that is a problem with the client, check in with them. If it is, help them with it. “Is that something that you’d like to change?” Sometimes you have to help the client “run towards the cliff”, but talk to them about it Our job as the coach is to support the client in what they want with themselves

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Momentum…” Momentum is energy moving in a direction When you set goals, you have energy moving towards that goal “An object in motion tends to stay in motion; an object at rest tends stay at rest.” Building momentum is like a snowball going down a hill: gets bigger and bigger You’ll become like a magnet, attracting what you need to you

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Creating Momentum…” 1.Dreaming up you goals 2.Writing down your goals 3.Making a dream board 4.Creating an action plan 5.Being at peace 6.Taking action on your plans 7.Consistently taking action on your plans (Start up can be the hardest part.)

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Things That Slow Momentum…” Procrastination “Waiting until tomorrow can become a habit.” Procrastination comes from fear, overwhelm, confusion, and self- doubt “Lazy” is a judgment Distraction –New goals –New strategies –New ideas –Other pleasures

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Creating Momentum Recap…” 1.Dreaming up you goals 2.Writing down your goals 3.Making a dream board 4.Creating an action plan 5.Taking action on your plans 6.Being at peace 7.Consistently taking action on your plans

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Peace...” Peace is one of the most powerful feelings Peace is very calm It’s very hard to go from fear to peace It’s easier to go from fear to feeling powerful, confident, or excited Change your body; your body and mind work together Knowing how to go from nervous to confident is a powerful skill Wherever you want to go, you can take yourself

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Technique: Shift How You Feel In Any Given Moment...” Put an angry expression on your face Think about a time when you felt angry Notice if you feel more angry now Jump up and down, let go of the anger, and put smile on your face Stand up and stand as if you have absolute confidence If you find yourself feeling anything you don’t want to feel, you can change how you feel by changing your body

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Long Term...” You can change your body, but if there are lots of underlying things going on, this technique might not resolve it But when you need it, it’s great to have

www.CoachesWithClients.com “Homework...” 1.Practice creating a safe place 2.Notice how you feel throughout the week, and if you don’t want to feel it, practice moving your body 3.Create a two week plan for what you need to do to move closer to your goals 4.Follow through on your action plan and notice how you feel 5.Join the Yahoo! Group
