3 1. Complete the rest of the Vocab Completing the Sentence activity (11-20) 2. Read Thomas Jefferson biography of p. 238!  List 5 facts about him  List 5 influences he had on the Enlightenment period  Name one of his most famous pieces of writing!

7  Find your famous couple friend!  You will need a piece of paper and a book open on your desk!

8 Look in the first, second, and final two paragraphs of the document. 1. Name three complaints the colonist had against the king. 2. What rights are specified in the Declaration? 3. What does Jefferson say is the purpose of government? 4. According to the declaration, who gives people their rights? 5. Which rhetorical appeal does Jefferson’s argument rely on? 6. How does Jefferson’s argument represent a culmination of Enlightenment thought? 7. Jefferson makes extensive use of which rhetorical device? 8. Why haven’t you drawn a picture of Jefferson hanging out with Washington on the Fourth of July shooting fireworks together? Yeah, you totally need to do that.

9  Send one member to get copies of the handout for each group member.  Together, read each set of excerpts and then answer the questions.  When finished with all the excerpts, INDIVIDUALLY answer the final question.  WHEN ALL MEMBERS HAVE ANSWERED THIS QUESTION, SHARE AND DISCUSS!

10  Independently utilizing your answers and group work take a practice quiz!  This quiz is very similar to questions you will be asked on your test!  Yes this is an informal grade so you have to finish before the bell!
