2. Early Years As a kid, he loved nature, books and the outdoors. He was born in New York City. Teddy was the second of four children. At the age of eighteen, Teddy was accepted to Harvard University. He suffered from poor health. He had very bad asthma and often had to be rushed to the hospital.

3. Middle Years When Theodore went to college, his dad built him a gym so he could exercise. Teddy even overcame his asthma. Living outdoors a little earlier before in Maine helped a lot too. On 1880, he marries Alice Hathaway Lee. She died two days after the birth of their only child, Alice. He married his second wife Edith Kermit Carow on 1886. Edith and Teddy had five children, and Teddy’s daughter, Alice made friends with all of them.

4. Why I Chose this Person I chose this person because I thought he was different from others. He stuck up for himself and showed pride for his country. Teddy protected his country and tried to make it a safe place. That’s what I like about him most.

5. Why this Person is Famous Theodore was famous for many things like The Spanish-American War in 1898. He was elected governor in 1899. Teddy became vice president in 1900 and he became the 26 th president in1901 after president McKinley was shot. He played a part in the invention of the Teddy Bear. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

6. Timeline He was born on 1858 October 27 th. Teddy married Alice Hathaway Lee on October 27 th 1880. 1882-1884 He served the New York State assembly. On 1884 Alice Lee Roosevelt dies. Marries Edith Kermit Carow in London on 1886. 1899 becomes Governor of New York. Elected vice president of the U.S.A under President McKinley.
