2  Pupils introduced to business trade on world scale  Discussion on food & its primary source  ‘Long Distance Meal’ activity  allows pupils to see the country of origin for a selection of imported goods  Pupils locate each item on a world map, measure distances & calculate how far their meal has travelled Module One “The World Around Us”

3 Module Two “Import & Export”  Puzzle-solving activity  pupils discover how businesses import & export goods  Pupils identify difference between natural & man-made resources  Pupils consider the effect of global supply & demand on;  value  price  use & sustainability of world’s resources

4 Module Three “The Trading Game”  Pupils play a trading game which looks at;  global trade  economic development in countries  resources available in each country

5 Module Four “International Marketing”  Pupils consider process of developing a product for export  In groups, pupils develop ideas for a product  Pupils develop basic marketing plan;  use of international marketing wall chart  based around four P’s of marketing  taking into account range of relational international considerations – eg. law, culture, competition, etc.

6 Module Five “Marketing Showcase”  Pupils present international marketing plans to class  Each group explains international marketing issues influencing;  product  price  place  promotion

7 Module Six “Production”  Pupils produce products from their group marketing plan  Materials provided by Downshire School  Supported by Downshire pupils

8 Products Examples of products made by Primary Schools Door Hangers Bookmarks Fridge Magnets

9 Trade Fair Set Up Downshire Organised Rota for P6 Brainstormed Speakers Ordered additional products Booked Hall Organised Transport Set up Stalls Organised music and entertainment Primary Schools Finalised products Organised posters Supervised during Fair

10 Module Seven “Sales & Marketing”  Trade Fair  Pupils have opportunity to showcase their product  Children transported to Downshire School  Parents invited to attend

11 Trade Fair Year 14 set up stalls Set up PowerPoint to music ‘Get to know you’ introduction section Primary pupils bought and sold at the Fair for 20 minutes Both Downshire and Primary Staff bought products After 20 minutes pupils had to compete by dropping prices

12 Module Eight “Graduation”  Culmination of programme  Children invited to take part in Graduation Ceremony  Received certificates & prizes for ideas & exhibitions at trade fair

13 Graduation Ceremony Guest Speaker: Ted from Big American Cookie Company Certificates were handed out to P6 teachers for each child P6 teachers received a Primary Programme Plaque Special Awards Each Year 14 group selected individual awards for their P6 team eg ‘Best Idea’, ‘Best Team Member’ Year 14 presented these awards to the pupils Photographs P6 transported home
