3 1. Introduction to the Module This module is part of a continuing programme of modules open to all students who have previously taken Spanish 2. The Intermediate Language programme focuses on all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in an integrated approach. It introduces key structures and vocabulary relevant to topics studied, and provides initial insights into Spanish society and culture. It combines Spanish vocabulary, grammar and sentence patterns using the communicative approach with the development of basic reading and writing skills. The module will develop students’ language competence, which will enhance their employability. SPANISH III 021203 First semester 2015 - 2016

4 Knowledge and understanding 1.Understand and speak high frequency vocabulary and intermediate grammar and interact orally with someone who speaks Spanish normally. 2.Read and write elaborated text in Spanish. Intellectual, practical, affective and transferable skills 1.Demonstrate that they have followed a programme of independent activities in support of learning. 2.Demonstrate understanding of intermediate Hispanic social and cultural formations. 2. Intended Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

5 Attending all the classes is very important and one of the best ways to succeed in this subject. Students are expected to arrive on time and take an active part during the classes. If they are unable to attend a class for a valid reason (e.g.: illness), they should contact the teacher. Continued absence can result in the termination of their registration as they will be considered to have withdrawn from their studies. 3. Attendance Requirements and class participation (10%)

6 All coursework assignments and other forms of assessment must be submitted by the published deadline. It is student’s responsibility to know when work is due to be submitted – ignorance of the deadline date will not be accepted as a reason for late or non-submission. Examination / Assessment scripts are retained by Chiang Mai University and are not returned to students. However, students are entitled to feedback on their performance in an examination and may request a meeting with the teacher to see their examination script and to discuss their performance. 4. 7 Cuaderno de ejercicios I (3%) Cuaderno de ejercicios II (3%) Spanish Film Club (4%) Once per month, on Wednesdays at 2.00 pm: Cultural activities are the ideal complement to the classroom experience. They are designed to give closer insight into socio-cultural aspects of our language, in a more leisurely way. During the semester, we program the Spanish Film Club, an out- of-class activity, in which students have the opportunity to watch and discuss contemporary Spanish films in order to achieve a global vision of the Spanish society and culture. 5. 9 Range of vocabulary and structures, grammatical accuracy and correct spelling and task completion and quality of information are the main criteria for the assessment paper. Mid/ term assessment represents 30% of the total mark for the module and the final one represents another 30%. The use of dictionaries/textbooks/notes during the assessment is not allowed. All questions must be answered in Spanish. 6. Assessment Criteria and Marking Standards 85 -100 % A 80 – 84 % B+ 74 – 79 % B 67 – 73 % C+ 60 – 66 % C 55 – 59 % D+ 50 – 54 % D 0 – 49 % F

10 Students are reminded that any work that they submit must be their own. When they are preparing their work for submission, it is important that they understand the various academic conventions that they are expected to follow in order to make sure that they do not leave their selves open to accusations of plagiarism (e.g.: the correct use of referencing, citations, footnotes etc.) and that their work maintains its academic integrity. Plagiarism is theft and constitutes the presentation of another’s work as your own in order to gain an unfair advantage. 7. Assessment Offences
