1 Iroquois by Mrs. Stodola’s class

2 Confederacy The Iroquois lived on the Northeast of the United States. Six nations created their confederacy. They were the Seneca, Mohawk, Oneida, Onandaga and Cayuga. Together they were a peaceful and strong confederacy.

4 Shelter The Iroquois lived in bark –covered structures called longhouses. Several members of the family lived together. They were called clans.

5 Iroquois people wore deer skin leggings, moccasins and feathers. The men wore feathers on their hair. The women wore deer skin clothes.

6 What Iroquois People Ate The women harvested corn, squash and beans. Those were called the three sisters because they grew together. They also ate deer, fish and small game.

7 Men’s and women’s jobs Men hunted moose, deer and game. Women grew vegetables.

8 Iroquois Wars The Iroquois fought along side the British against the French. They used bow and arrow, spear and rocks.

9 Interesting facts A long house could hold up from 30 to 60 people. – The children went hunting with the adults so they could learn.
