(i) Color: Nitrogen is a colorless gas. (ii) Odor: It has no odor. (iii) Taste: It is a tasteless gas. (iv) Vapor density: The vapor density of nitrogen is 14 (Vapor density of air = 14.4). Hence it is slightly lighter than air. (v) Solubility: Nitrogen is slightly soluble in water. 1 liter of water dissolves about 22 ml of nitrogen at 0 o C. (vi) Liquefaction: When cooled and compressed nitrogen liquefies to a colorless liquid, which boils at -196 o C. When further cooled, it freezes to a white snow like solid, which melts at -210 o C.
