Hospitality Design

Introduction to the brief To design the reception area, main bar and restaurant of The Bradley House Hotel, a 3 star, mid-budget, stylish hotel in the heart of Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter (NQ). The hotel is housed in a “flat-iron” shaped, former shipping warehouse, built in 1855 in a Late-Georgian style. The building is Grade II listed and many of the original features have been carefully maintained.

The Brief The restaurant - “Cottonopolis” (after the nickname Manchester received at the height of the cotton trade industrial boom) is a contemporary “British Brassiere” which should have a formal, but relaxed, feel. The Bar - “The Mercury Head”, a reference to the building’s history as a hat factory, will take on the form of a traditional Victorian public house, with a modern “twist.” All designs should work with the building and exploit the traditional features.

Inspiration and design concepts Inspired by the existing, traditional warehouse features, the quirky Northern Quarter setting a twist on a traditional Victorian tavern and simple, pared back design.

The final design
