6 But, did you know...  Posters have been around for about 2,000 years. Their initial placard intent was to influence the voting practices of the Romans and promote their dramatic performances (Weill, 1985).  The modern type of poster combining lettering with imagery can be traced to about the 1600's (Cooper, 1949).

7 But, did you know...  Posters replaced the public town criers and heralds (Rossi, 1966).  Throughout the centuries, posters have changed a lot because of techniques, styles, printing process, cultures, and issues. Yet, the basic rules of poster design, simplicity, balance, workmanship, and surprise have remained (Biegdersen, 1946).

11 But, did you know...  When it comes to posters, rule #1 is... there are no rules!  A poster can only have words or no words at all...

19 Remember...  If professionals, besides doing research, brainstorm and discuss with lots of people before producing good posters, students really need to talk to each other when they are doing the production process!
