UIC ERTMS World Conference ERTMS Baselines Pio GUIDO, Head of ERTMS Unit Istanbul, 2 April 2014

Rail technologies – signalling and telecom 2 Long life cycle of assets Dedicated equipment Proprietary solutions Slow technological renewal Restricted supply market

ERTMS is innovation and harmonization ERTMS is not a product or a technical solution ERTMS is basedon “open source” shared requirements for interoperability; on ERA web ERTMS requiresan international approach to design, deliver and maintain local signalling systems ERTMS meansless autonomy 3 What is ERTMS

EC launch analysis of signalling Interop Directive (HS) Interop Directive (CR) ERTMS required in legal text 1 st MoU ERTMS Coordinator European Railway Agency Version 2.3.0d MoU – Deployment Plan EU Deploymen t Plan MoU Baseline 3 ETCS Baseline 3 1989 1996 2001 2004 2005 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 Connectin g Europe Facility A sustained joint effort High Speed in Italy, Spain Conventional Rail World wide

ETCS Baseline 2 Released in 2008 Stable reference proven in revenue service High Speed Dedicated Freight (Betuwe line) Alpine tunnels (Loetschberg) Suburban network (Cercanias Madrid) More ERTMS km and trains than comparable legacy systems 5

ETCS Baseline 3 Released in 2012 - evolution, not revolution Based on B2 return of experience All Designer Choices incorporated Harmonized Human Interface (DMI) Standard Braking Curves (freight and high-speed) Upgraded interface legacy systems (STM) Limited Supervision functionality Trains backward compatible with B2 tracks Integrates System Version Management enabling evolution 6

EC, ERA and Sector agree that: ›Specifications will change, due to ›errors ›improvements, new functions,.. ›Release Planning is the tool to manage it ›With the discipline necessary in a shared system 2012 ERTMS MoU 7

ERTMS/ETCS releases 8 System Version Management – subset-104

GSM-R Short term evolution 9 The main changes in the TSI Recommendations are:  Only mandated to cover the 876-880 MHz (paired with 921-925 MHz) spectrum band  To allow in the vehicles protective measures against interferences.  The group call IDs 555 and 200 have been clarified.  To promote a consistent and interoperable use of the groups.  High priority calls definition  To allow point to point high priority calls

conclusion -ERTMS is ready and proven in use -A mature change control process with all the stakeholders -ETCS offers flexibility, configuration and functional capabilities covering the requirements of a growing range of applications in diverse and demanding conditions -Baseline 3 is the basis for an interoperable network in Europe, and for state of the art deployment worldwide -GSM-R is a worldwide standard and it will be supported nearly to 2030: tools and rules available to manage spectrum co-existence with other services -ERA will lead the preparation for the future of railway communication 11
