2 Class Size 2011-2012 Utilizing the Class Size Flexibility Authorized by the State Board of Education To increase class size maximums over those established in the 2007 SBOE Class Size Rule must have a resolution approved by the local board and submit copy to the GaDOE for data collection

3 Class Size 2011-2012 Applicability to Charter Systems and IE2 Contract Systems Approved Charter Systems or IE2 Systems are able to set class size maximum requirements to the extent authorized in their charter or contract, and are not required to have a resolution approved by local board of education

4 State Education Revised Rules 160-5-1-.28 Student Enrollment and Withdrawal Appropriate Documentation to Confirm Student has Emigrated to Another Country – must have written confirmation but need not obtain official written documentation.

5 State Education Revised Rules 160-5-1-.28 Student Enrollment and Withdrawal For example, if parent informs school official that the family is leaving the country, the school official may document the conversation in writing and include it in student’s file

6 State Education Rules Revised 160-5-1-.18 Competitive Interscholastic Activities in Grades 6-12 The physical examination form that is required of all students who participate in competitive interscholastic athletics or cheerleading must be signed by a physician or legally authorized designee.

7 State Education Rules Revised 160-5-1-.10 Student Attendance Foster Care Student who attends court proceedings relating to the student’s foster care shall be counted as present by the school and shall not be counted as an absence, either excused or unexcused for any portion of the day or days missed from school

8 State Education Rules Revised 160-8-1-.01 Georgia Virtual School Funds may be appropriated for online learning courses taken by students in Georgia Virtual School courses during the regular school day (no longer limited to one unit per semester)

9 State Education Rules Revised 160-7-1-.01 Single Statewide Accountability System The new rule combines the four previous rules that comprised Georgia’s Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS) The new rule ensures the alignment of the AYP process with the transition from GHSGT to increased role of the EOCT

10 State Education Rules Revised 160-7-1-.01 Single Statewide Accountability System New rule will adapt current provisions to allow greater flexibility moved the detailed and technical process of calculating AYP to the Consolidated State Application Accountability Workbook

11 State Education Rules Revised 160-7-1-.01 Single Statewide Accountability System Development of College and Career Performance Index will serve as a component of the Accountability Profile required by SSAS

12 State Education Rules Waiver Process Local Board of Education Resolution Superintendent Letter Both should include: Rule Number & Name Timeframe Reason & Modifications

13 State Education Rules Revised 160-4-2-.05 Middle School Program Criteria Grades 6-8 housed in any grade configured school for middle school program funding Does not require separate principal for middle school grades if building includes other grades
