 Christianity  Islam  Hinduism

 “Christianity is based on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, a Galilean Jew.”  They believed that he is the Savior, or Messiah of God and that he will bring peace and justice to God.  Christianity teaches that if you believe and follow in the footsteps of Jesus, God’s son, you will be able achieve eternal salvation from death and will be granted entry into the kingdom of heaven.  Once Jesus had been resurrected, the amount of followers for the son of God increased numerously.

Baptist: the Baptists in the south considered the scriptures to be the sufficient and exclusive rule of faith and practice. Baptists hold that those only are members of the Church of Christ who have been baptized upon making a personal profession of faith

Methodists belong to those Protestant denominations that trace their beginnings back to John Wesley, a clergyman of the Church of England. They accept the Bible as the primary rule of faith, with Christian tradition and reason as secondary authorities. They also stress religious experience as an important standard of faith.

 Churches in Alabama were not well organized, which resulted in the churches meeting to only meet 7-8 times a year.  They were scattered all throughout the towns  The meeting were usually every month, except for when the weather was particularly severe  Most followers of God “trying to bring order to the dangerous and chaotic frontier, who experienced frightfully high rates of infant and maternal mortality, and who were totally dependent on the vagaries of nature for their livelihood, the hope of divine assistance and ultimate salvation and a home in heaven” used it as a place to come together and unite as a community.

 Christianity: of, pertaining to, believing in, or belonging to the religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ  Baptist:a member of a Christian denomination that baptizes believers by immersion and that is usually Calvinistic in doctrine  Methodist: a member of the largest Christian denomination that grew out of the revival of religion led by John Wesley: stresses both personal and social morality and has an Arminian doctrine and, in the U.S., a modified episcopal polity.  Religion: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects  Alabama: a state in the SE United States; 3,890,061; 51,609 sq.mi. (133,670 sq.km). Capital: Montgomery. Abbreviation: AL
