Lesson # 11 Comparing Prices

To save money when we shop… We need to compare prices ! !

To compare prices…. Sometimes you might double, triple, or even multiply prices OR items, by 4 or 5. Other times you may have to divide prices or items. Depending on the “values”, YOU will have to decide the “Best” way.

When comparing…. You will have to ask yourself questions like this… How much would it cost for the same amount? Or At the same price, how many do I get?

For example… What would be the “best buy” …

5 pounds of bacon for $2.15 OR 10 pounds of bacon For $4.10

Try doubling the amount, or the price… 5 pounds for $2.15 would be … 10 pounds for $4.30 !!!

Compare that ($4.10) to the original 10 pounds for $4.30… And you will see that you can SAVE $0.20 …

By purchasing the 10 pound size ! That $0.20 is better off in your pocket, than theirs!

Another example… What would be the “Best Buy” …

A dozen eggs for $2.95 Or 1.5 dozen eggs for $4.50

12 eggs for $2.95 OR 18 eggs for $4.50 Think…

12 eggs for $2.95 would mean 18 eggs for a bit less than $4.50 Right… 2.95 (3.00) + $1.50 = $4.50 Don’t forget…the $2.95 was rounded off to $3.00 for easier calculations!

So… The “Best Buy” would be, 12 for $2.95 !

And now for 10 practice questions… For each question… Write down only the “Best Buy”.

ATTENTION SCHOLARS ! Because it takes so long to write down the answers to these type of questions… More time will be given between slides. However, you should still come up with the answer in less than 12 seconds!
