1 Negative Effects of Industrialization
1890 – 1920 Progressive Reform Progressive reformers applied a systematic approach to problems facing Americans in the workplace and at home. Progressives addressed workplace efficiency and safety standards, child labor, workmen's compensation, minimum wages, and working hours for women. Improvements at home included an increased emphasis on education, helping immigrant families, Prohibition, curbing prostitution, public health, and municipal services. Women’s Suffrage WA State Constitutional amendment gave women rights: vote in state/local elections, held public office, serve on juries WA was the 5th state to pass suffrage laws in the US, 10 years before…. Women gain right to vote nationwide / 19th Amendment to Constitution Composed of groups opposed to making and consuming of alcohol. Believed drinking by men ruined families. Supported passage of 18th Amendment to Constitution banning manufacture and sale of alcohol. WA wasn’t as “dry” as other states because of smuggling from Canada Temperance Movement © Michael Goldfein
