7 Environmental Water Consumption The university has set the target to reduce water consumption by 5% What can we do to help? Less water in the mop buckets = Less waster wasted and Less weight to carry and lift.

8 Accommodation & Hospitality Services Environmental Water Consumption On average we use 10.3 Litres of water per bucket fill Over a week just for washing kitchen floors we use 2142.4 Litres. If we reduce the amount we put in buckets to 5 Litres Over a week for washing kitchens floors we would only use 1040 Litres. Saving 1102.4 Litres a week That’s 2000 Pints Over a student year (38 Weeks) 41891.2 Litres 76000 Pints

10 Accommodation & Hospitality Services Answer: £6 million The University spent £4.2 million in 2010/11 on utilities, made up of: –Electricity - £2,284k –Gas - £1,141k –Water/sewerage - £789k –For 2011/12 the budget was £6m, and the projection for 2012/13 is £6,416k. In a year we typically use the figures shown below, from which we generate around 24,000 tonnes CO2 emissions: –27 million kWh electricity (equivalent to 9000 houses) –45 million kWh gas (equivalent to 3000 houses) –320,000 m3 water (equivalent to 4000 houses)

11 Accommodation & Hospitality Services Personal Development time The Accommodation and Hospitality department support Personal Development time as part of its work-life balance culture. The department encourages staff to use personal development time to take part in something that will benefit them in their career, gain more skills, benefit the community, build a healthy lifestyle or in-line with operational requirements for example:-

12 Accommodation & Hospitality Services Completing a BUCS training course to gain further Qualifications and support training needs Volunteering for a local charity Lunchtime fitness class at the STV Driving lessons Job shadowing someone who works at the University Full time employees can take up to 20 hours per year part-time employees are able to take 10 hours per year Personal Development time Personal Time needs to be approved before you book any lessons or courses.

14 Accommodation & Hospitality Services Installation of The Chancellor As already announced (http://www.bath.ac.uk/news/2013/10/15/open-house/), all staff and students are invited to attend the Open House event which will be held in the Sports Training Village between 12:30pm and 4pm. This will include hands-on exhibitions of our latest research, performances by a range of student societies, sports demonstrations and taster events. It has been carefully planned to try to ensure there is something of interest to all staff and students. 15 Accommodation & Hospitality Services At around 3:30pm the Chancellor and the Countess of Wessex will tour The Chancellors' building and take part in a ceremony to mark its official opening, unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion. Several staff have already asked how they should address the Earl and Countess – ‘Chancellor’ would be appropriate for the Earl and ‘Your Royal Highness’ for the Countess. On behalf of the Installation steering group, I do encourage you all to take this opportunity to celebrate our University with friends and colleagues and to welcome our new Chancellor to Bath.
