2. © GAA New Referee Recruitment Committee  Set up in 2014 on the instruction of Sean Nugent, Chairman of Tipperary County Board and chaired by John Lonergan  First such committee in the County  One representative from each division  Chairman -John Lonergan  Committee- Philip Kelly (North) Stevie O Donnell (West) Willie Barrett (South) Paul Stapleton (Mid)

3. © GAA Aims of the Committee Put a plan in place to meet refereeing needs within the Premier County in the Future. Ensure sufficient referees to meet the demand in the county. Structure the current set up of referees to sustain itself.

4. © GAA Future Aims of the Committee  Recruitment Committee request permission from the County board to have responsibility of new referees for a period of 1 year after completing the Foundation course.  Reasons: –Fostering new referees into the system –Support & Encouragement –Further training in theory and practical –Quarterly review of progress – Review of matches completed to date 4 Referee Training Course - Samhain 2013

5. © GAA Current Referee set up  Approximately 4,500 matches in Tipperary in 2013  Approximately 95 active referees in Tipperary –(Note: active referee = more than 10 games completed)  Average age of referees in County = 44 yrs –South51 yrs –North44 yrs –Mid42 yrs –West40 yrs

7. © GAA Requirements for 2015  The Co. Referees Administration Committee in Tipperary has adopted a policy that a Referee, who did not undergo In Service/Fitness Assessment/Rules Test in the County, would NOT be considered for Championship games in the Senior or Intermediate Grade of both Hurling and Football in 2014.  It was also confirmed from January 2015 it is compulsory that all referees must complete a Fitness Assessment / Rules test organised by the Co. Referees Committee along with the yearly In Service Training course, to be considered for officiating at games in all grades through this county. 7 Referee Training Course - Samhain 2013

8. © GAA The Future Ahead  Try and encourage new referees to take up at an younger age.  All divisional boards must support venture.  Clubs must be more pro active to supply personnel who are interested and suitable for refereeing.  Personnel must be going into refereeing for the correct reasons.
