What do umpires Need from the UM at a tournament ?  They want to be part of a team.  The UM should also be part of the same team.  The UM should build the team and keep it together.  A good, happy team will show on the pitch.

What do umpires Need from the UM at a tournament ?  The umpire needs the UM to be on his/her side after the game. They do not need to be told what they did wrong when they are walking off the pitch.  They do not want you to be talking about them to any other umpire.  You should not be talking about forthcoming appointments in the tournament.

What do umpires Need from the UM at a tournament?  They need to be de-briefed.  They need to be given positive feedback.  They need to be given objective guidance on areas they need to work on.  Your job as an UM is not just for this tournament. The umpire has a lot to offer hockey. If they aren’t doing too well at this tournament, it doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t at another.
