3. The number of people living in İstanbul is increasing day by day as a result of immigration from the rural areas. Since the population grows, the negative effects of this growth also increase.

4. SOLID WASTE What is our PROBLEM ?

5. Istanbul produces about 14,000 tons of solid waste per day.This is the inevitable outcome of being a big city. So the main issue is to lessen the amount of solid waste and to recycle the wastes that are produced.

7. As you see at the graphic most of the wastes are recyclable. But the main problem in İstanbul is that people are not careful enough to separate their wastes for recycling. Some people are not well educated and some of them are not aware of the danger.

8. When we discussed the problem deeply we noticed that we should create awareness among people and this should start from our school. Thus, we tried to find some enjoyable activities which aim to teach students the importance of recycling while having fun.

9. Firstly, we prepared a video for our school and we demonstrated it to the students from kindergarten to lycee. Then, we started to apply this project in our school and students are really having fun when they are recycling. It began to be a habit for them and also they are recycling at home. Let’s watch it together…

10. This is just beginning. In Germany we will try other enjoyable things which make recycling fun.
