1. Actions to Limit Climate Change Computer simulation programs are used to analyze CO 2 & H 2 O cycles, concentrations of GHG, albedo effects, and ocean currents to make predictions on global warming.

2. What can we do to save our planet? 1.Support the Kyoto Protocol signed by many UN countries that calls for a 20% reduction in GHG emissions from years 2006-2020 and 60-70% reduction by year 2050. BUT to limit global warming increase to no more than 2C by year 2100, UN suggests 80% cut in GHG by 2050 Canada’s efforts rank 55 th out of 57 worst GHG polluters in world, mainly because 30% of Canada does not support Kyoto (oil industry/job loss)

3. 2.Use other cleaner energy sources: wind, solar, geothermal, biofuel, hydroelectric, nuclear. although each of these alternatives have their own disadvantages that include: cost, effectiveness, ecological issues and other types of pollution.

4. 3.Other local government initiatives: Shut down all coal burning generator stations in Ont by 2014 Provide funds/grants for “green” technology/businesses Limit/reduce deforestation & plant 50 million trees by 2020 Restrict fertilizer use in communities Provide improved public transportation (limit single cars) Develop more fuel efficient/hybrid cars Clean air emissions car testing for older vehicles Limit use of fossil fuels (through taxation) Improve microclimate of urban areas by proper planning and use of energy efficient materials

5. Reduce waste by purchasing less unnecessary materials & using only recyclable products Make appropriate personal choices!
