6. Pope St. Gregory the Great organized Rome, gave generously to the poor, and wrote letters to instruct Catholics. Pope Gregory is also known for reforming the liturgy and compiling Church music. Pope Gregory sent monks to every land to evangelize barbarians. The monks also made laws, taught the people reading, writing, and counting, and showed them how to cultivate the land and set up trade.
