8 School Environmental Education, Story Walk. This is a real life case study analysis made by Ballantyne, Fien and Packer (n.d), It was made to explore the impact of two school environmental education programs, in the students, their teachers and their parents. 9 They made two programs that were developed in Australia, we are going to explain one of them, the primary school program called “Story walk” and integrated to the studies curriculum, was conducted in a primary school with Year 5 and Year 7 students (aged 9 - 12), It was a story of the friendship between Matthew (a young white boy) and Kara (and Aboriginal girl), they lived in 1800 in this country, the story showed a context in which students could explore connections between the social and natural world.

10 The story was developed in four sessions called “chapters”: Chapter 1: It was made in the classroom to prepare the students in the context of the story, the past and non- aboriginal people. Chapter 2: The students visited the centre where the story continued in four stages in which they could see the home of the non-aboriginal, their displacement from their land and the use of water as a resource Chapter 3: The students had to invent a final for the story, this final had to include a solution to “save the catchment” in some way. Chapter 4: A member of the centre’s staff told the author’s ending to the story, linking the problem of the story with the actual local problems.

11 RESULT OF THE PROGRAM Students considered the environment as an important topic in their lives. Students said they changed their behavior related with environment practices. The perception of teachers and parents about the environmental learning of students was positive. The program provided an enjoyable experience for students The program connected the interest of the students with the topic. The program became in a support for environmental learning. 6 Ballantyne R, Fien J & Packer J. (n.d.).
