2 Course synopsis : The objective of this course is to introduce the concepts and applications of heat transfer modes to the students of mechanical engineering. Emphasis will be given to different modes of heat transfer and their application to industry as well as every day life problems.

3 COURSE CONTENT Study Week Content 1 Basic Modes of Heat Transfer The Relation of Heat Transfer to Thermodynamics, Heat Conduction, Convection, Radiation, Combined Heat Transfer Systems, Thermal Insulation, Dimensions and Units. 2,3,4 Conduction Heat Transfer Introduction, The Conduction Equation, Theory and Analysis of One-Dimensional, Steady State Heat Flow, Initial and Boundary Conditions, Thermal Resistance and Thermal Network, Heat Transfer in Composite Media, Media with Internal Heat Generation, The Lumped Capacitance Method and its Validity.
