But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:20-23 1 Corinthians 15:20-23

Thus it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven…. Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:45-49

Second Adam Last Adam Final Adam New Adam Heavenly Adam

Christ’s genealogy in Matthew’s Gospel The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham… …and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. …and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.

Christ’s genealogy in Luke’s Gospel Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years of age, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of… …the son of Adam, the son of God.

…Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. Romans 5:14,17 Romans 5:14,17

Adam and Christ [ ‘like’ but radically different ]

Let Jesus restore you!

If death got the upper hand through one man's wrongdoing, can you imagine the breathtaking recovery life makes, sovereign life, in those who grasp with both hands this wildly extravagant life-gift, this grand setting-everything-right, that the one man Jesus Christ provides? Rom. 5:17 (The Message) Rom. 5:17 (The Message)

Let Jesus transform you! … seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator

Look with Hope for the Resurrection to come! Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.

We think that Paradise and Calvary, Christ's cross, and Adam's tree, stood in one place; Look, Lord, and find both Adams met in me; As the first Adam's sweat surrounds my face, May the last Adam's blood my soul embrace. John Donne, Hymn to God in Sickness
