2 Teachers Role As an early childhood teacher, you will be challenged to find new experiences to share with children. Allow children to choose their learning and play style while making safety your number one concern. Teachers must take time to listen to children

3 Teachers Roles Learn when to let children work alone and when to step in Activities should promote development of the following five basic process skills: Observing objects using the five senses Drawing conclusions from observations based on one or more observable properties Comparing sets of objects by measuring and counting Communicating by describing objects, relationships, and occurrences

5 Nurturing a child encompasses all aspects of development: social, emotional, cognitive, and physical. Always create a environment that fosters creativity and learning Plan activities that maximize learning, such as having a letter of the week, where all activities uses the same letter.

6 Teachers Responsibilities Know how children grow and develop Plan a developmental appropriate curriculum Prepare the environment Communicate Effectively Demonstrate teamwork Manage time wisely Participate in professional organizations Follow ethical standards Continue to learn

7 Characteristics of a Successful Teacher Fondness for children: Show love for each child Feeling loved, safe, and emotionally secure helps children develop intellectually and emotionally You need to be kind, firm, and understanding with each child Patience: Allow children time to explore, solve problems and create Give children the opportunity to repeat task Compassion: Requires self-knowledge and self-acceptance Involves accepting any emotion from others such as grief, joy, fear, love, or even hate Confidence: Teachers who are relaxed and natural tend to be more successful with children Sense of Humor: Having a sense of humor can make your work more enjoyable When children see a teacher with a positive, cheerful attitude, they are more likely to be positive and cheerful
