4 Europe 2020 strategy - 10 year strategy aimed at making the EU more dynamic and competitive -Three key drivers: Smart, sustainable and inclusive growth Headline targets 75% of the population aged 20-64 should be employed; 3% of the EU's GDP should be invested in R&D; The "20/20/20" climate/energy targets should be met (including an increase to 30% of emissions reduction if the conditions are right); The share of early school leavers should be under 10% and at least 40% of younger generation should have a tertiary degree; and 20 million fewer people should be at risk of poverty Erasmus for All - Context

8 Erasmus for All - rationale June Sept Dec Erasmus for All - Overview Number of high-skilled jobs is growing while number of low- skilled jobs is decreasing By 2020 nearly 35% of jobs will require high skills, innovation capacity and the ability to adapt One of headline Europe 2020 targets = to reduce early school leavers from 14% to less than 10% To contribute to this goal, Erasmus for All will “support modernisation at all levels of education and training, including school education, from early childhood to secondary level and initial vocational training.”

11 Erasmus for All - overview June Sept Dec Will run from 2014 – 2020 Main aim: “to improve people’s skills and ultimately their employability as well as to support the modernisation of education and training systems” Proposed overall budget = EUR 19 billion (70% increase on current funding) Solely for actions with transnational characteristics Two completely new elements: Loan guarantee scheme to help Master’s degree students finance study abroad Creation of 400 ‘knowledge alliances’ and ‘sector skills alliances’ Erasmus for All - Overview

17 Learning Mobility - overview June Sept Dec Includes: Erasmus Higher Education Erasmus Training (vocational training & adult learning) Erasmus Schools Erasmus Youth Participation (non-formal learning) Split into four Key Activities: Staff mobility Student mobility Master degree mobility Youth mobility All researcher mobility and Joint PhDs to be dealt with under Horizon 2020 Marie Curie Actions Erasmus for All - Structure

18 Co-operation – overview Will include: Strategic partnerships Knowledge alliances Sector skills alliances Information technology (IT) platforms 400 ‘Knowledge Alliances’ and ‘Sector Skills Alliances’ to be created between HEIs and businesses Institutional co-operation between any organisations involved in education facilitated 3 IT Platforms to promote alternative mobility forms (e.g. e-Twinning) Erasmus for All - Structure

19 Policy Reform - overview June Sept Dec Will help strengthen support activities which steer EU agendas in education, training and youth Will support three main activities: Open methods of co-ordination EU tools for valorisation and implementation (indicators, benchmarks, peer review Policy dialogue with stakeholders, third countries, and international organisations Also: support for specific policy agendas (e.g. Bologna) Erasmus for All - Structure

20 Policy Reform – Jean Monnet Initiative Will continue as a separate activity Aims to promote excellence and research on EU integration Will continue to: encourage diversification of studies improve geographical balance improve participation of new teachers Will create a ‘Jean Monnet label of excellence’ for institutions recognising quality of European integration studies programmes Erasmus for All - Structure

21 Policy Reform – Sport Will support: transnational collaborative projects Non-commercial European sporting events of major importance strengthen the evidence base for policy making in the field of sport capacity building in sport dialogue with relevant European stakeholders Beneficiaries = public bodies / CSOs active in grassroots sport Projects / networks will implement / monitor guidelines & recommendations adopted by Member States / sports organisations Erasmus for All - Structure

22 Policy Reform – Sport June Sept Dec Priorities: strengthening good governance and knowledge-base for policy making in the field of sport; promoting health through physical activity; exploiting the potential of sport to foster social inclusion, promoting dual careers through education / training of athletes; strengthen the evidence base for policy making in the field of sport; capacity building in sport; tackling transnational threats (doping, match fixing, racism, etc.); dialogue with relevant European stakeholders Erasmus for All - Structure
