2 What is culture? Culture is a word for people's 'way of life'. It can be seen in people's writing, religion, music, clothes and cooking. Different countries have different cultures. World Day for Cultural Diversity is about gaining an understanding of each other's cultures in order to promote peace, stability and development.

4 Some of your clothes will be made of cotton
Some of your clothes will be made of cotton. This could be grown in a country like Malawi in Africa. They may have been sewn together in India. Trainers may have been made in Thailand. Jeans are often made in Bangladesh.

5 Orange juice from Brazil
Tea from Sri Lanka Cereal mostly from Argentina Coffee from Peru Chocolate from Ivory Coast in West Africa. Sweets made from sugar grown in Jamaica.

6 You may have packed your school bag with pencils made in China
A calculator from Taiwan A mobile phone designed in Finland That’s a dozen countries already!

7 Britain has benefited from diversity throughout its long history and is currently one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world! The food we eat, the music we listen to, and the clothes we wear have all been influenced by different cultures coming into Britain. Ethnic food, for example, is part of an average British diet. One of Britain's favourite dishes is Indian Curry. Britons have enjoyed Curry for a surprisingly long time- the first curry on a menu was in 1773!
