RockSat-C 2012 SITR Full Mission Simulation Report Harding University William Waldron, Joshua Griffith, Drew Cancienne, Edmond Wilson, David Stair 22 April 2012

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Mission Overview The mission of the Flying Bison RockSat-C 2012 Team is to record spectra in the range of 200 to 1000 nm as a function of altitude using a NASA sounding rocket to carry the payload 2

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Mission Overview Give brief overview of test –We now have all the construction finished and partially tested. –The spectrometer is mounted and partially tested –The g-switch circuit board has been made but not populated nor tested –The software is about 50 percent complete –All the hardware needed has arrived 3

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Subsystem Overview You should be including, but are not limited to: Mechanical/Structure -- finished Electrical/ CDH – need 5 wires connected between spectrometer and microcontroller and need 2 wires connected between photodiode and microcontroller Power (EPS) -- tested Need battery connected to microcontroller with two wires Software – 50% completed Science – well understood and ready for performing tests as soon as software is developed. Please discuss the performance of each subsystem 4

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Mechanical/Structure Did the structure integrate as expected? -- yes Did you weigh the payload? -- yes Will you need ballast to reach the 20 +/- 0.2 requirement? -- no For paired teams: What is the plan for integrating with your partner? –What will you use to connect to their payload? – we have holes that exactly match mounting holes in bottom and top of canister that they can use (8-32 clearance holes). At what height? They have exactly the bottom half of canister –What is your combined weight? –Where is your combined CG? -- we are building a CG apparatus What are the action items for structures between now and Launch Readiness Review? – no action except integration with canister partner 5

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Electrical/CDH Did the electronics work? – not completed –Have they all been integrated with each other? -- No –Did you test the activation system? Did it work? -- No Did the electronics sample data? -- No Have you retrieved the data? Does the data make sense? -- No –Show graphs and plots! – None What are the action items for electronics between now and Launch Readiness Review? – populate g- switch/power distribution board and test. 6

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Power (EPS) How did the batteries perform? -- Fine –Initial/final voltages? – Depends on the time when final voltage read Any malfunctions with regulators or unexpected power draws? Not yet What are the action items for power between now and Launch Readiness Review? – Complete wiring, test g- switch circuit 7

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Software Did the software run correctly? Not yet Were the sampling rates those that were expected? Don’t know What are the action items for software between now and Launch Readiness Review? -- Finish 8

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Action Item Summary Show a detailed schedule here for when the action items for each subsystem will be designed, tested, and completed We are in the last week of school and finals are next week. Since this is extracurricular work, it must be given low priority for the next two weeks until the semester is over. At that time each of us will be devoting 40 hours per week to the project until it is complete. 9

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Pictures You don’t need to put all pictures here, this is just a note to please include as many payload pictures from the test and graphs of testing results as possible! 10

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Conclusions Issues and concerns? We are confident that things are going well and look forward to the testing phase to begin in about two weeks. Closing remarks – We have made our hotel reservations and will make airline and car rental Monday 23 April 2012 Gave summary of this project at 2012 Arkansas Space Grant Consortium on 19 April 2012. Check is being cut for the last amount owed RockSat-C 2012. PowerPoints of the two reports are attached. 11

RockSat-C 2012 SITR Appendix Extra/additional data plots – see PowerPoints Additional data not immediately relevant to presentation -- None
