Multiplying tens I am learning to multiply tens, hundreds, thousands, and other tens numbers. 10, 20, 30 100, 200, 300 1000, 2000, 3000

Below are 3 groups of 20 counters. How many counters are there in total? 3 X 20 = ? We can see there are 3 groups with 2 sets of 10. We can work out how many tens there are using our multiplication basic facts. 3 X 2 = 6 That means that are 6 groups of ten which is 60 counters. Notice how working out 3 X 2 = 6 helped us work out 3 X 20 = 60

Below are 4 groups of 30 counters. How many counters are there in total? 4 X 30 = ? We can see there are 4 groups with 3 sets of 10. We can work out how many tens there are using our multiplication basic facts. 4 X 3 = 12 That means that are 12 groups of ten which is 120 counters. Notice how working out 4 X 3 = 12 helped us work out 4 X 30 = 120

We can also use our basic facts to help us when multiplying by hundreds or thousands. 3 X 500 = ? We can see there are 3 groups with 5 sets of 100. We can work out how many hundreds there are using our multiplication basic facts. 3 X 5 = 15 That means that are 15 groups of one hundred which is 1,500 counters. Notice how working out 3 X 5 = 15 helped us work out 3 X 50 = 1,500 100 Below are 3 groups of 500 counters. How many counters are there in total?

The questions to the left can be made easier by identifying a multiplication basic fact that helps. Which questions go together? 1) 3 X 80 = ? 2) 5 X 60 = ? 3) 4 X 40 = ? 4) 5 X 300 = ? 5) 5 X 600 = ? 3 X 8 = 24 5 X 6 = 30 4 X 4 = 16 5 X 3 = 15 5 X 6 = 30 240 300 160 1,500 3,000

Now try these questions on your own. 1) 8 X 30 = ? 2) 7 X 50 = ? 3) 3 X 400 = ? 4) 2 x 900 = ? 5) 6 X 40 = ? Click again when you have worked out all your answers. 240, (8 X 3 = 24) Need some more practise?
