1 Personal and Social Responsibility through Physical Activity Alyssa Moser’s 4 th Grade Class

2  Joel Silver was introduced to “Frisbee football” at Mount Herman School in Massachusetts  1 st Edition rules created in 1968 by Joel Silver, Johnathan Hines and Bernard Hellring  The first college game was played between Princeton and Rutgers in 1972. Source: usaultimate.orgusaultimate.org

3  Field Size: Rectangle- 100x37m 18m end zones  Regulation disc- 10.75 inch diameter, 175 grams  7 players on the field per team

4  Keep these in mind! ◦ Level 1- Respect ◦ Level 2- Effort and Participation ◦ Level 3- Self-Direction ◦ Level 4- Caring about Others ◦ Level 5- Transfer

5  The offense receives the disc (pull) from the defense to start the point  Completed pass in the end zone scores 1 point  Passes must be completed within 10 seconds  You may not run with the disc

6  The defense pulls the disc to the offense to start the point  A person guarding the thrower (marker) puts on a stall count of 10 seconds  If a pass is not completed possession of defense to offense changes immediately

7  Players make all of the calls (fouls, stall counts, delays, travels) and resolves any disagreements (know the rules)rules  Fouls are called when contact is made, if you disagree with a call you can say “Contest”Contest

8  Respect  Play your hardest  Be fair and play by the rules

9  Level 1- Is respect significant in Ultimate? How?  Level 2- How are effort and participation important?  Level 3- Is self-direction and responsibility important?  Level 4- Is caring about others a factor in Ultimate?  Level 5- How can you relate Ultimate to your life?

10  Level 1- The players must respect themselves, their opponents and the rules of the game  Level 2- This is a TEAM sport  Level 3- Know the rules, be a responsible team mate  Level 4- Sportsmanship and being a compassionate team mate is important  Level 5- Respect all, be responsible for yourself and show compassion for others

11  City Leagues City Leagues  College Teams- Men’s and Women’sMen’sWomen’s  Club Teams- Men’s, Women’s, MixedMen’sWomen’sMixed  Pick-up, start a game in your neighborhood where anyone can join
